Position Summary:
The applicant will be an essential part of the two-person winemaking team at City Winery DC and will be directly involved in all winemaking operations during the 2018 crush. This is a very hands-on position with plenty of learning opportunities making high-quality wine from high-end fruit in the heart of the up-and-coming Ivy City neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Crops origin will be a mix of local VA crops and West coast (CA, OR and WA states). Small-scale production of lots of 2-4 tons.
Overview of Responsibilities:
Sanitization of the tank, floors, and barrels of CW DC.
Management of the keg fleet of CW DC, racking/ blending and kegging of CW Tap wine.
Manage CW barrel inventory: topping and treatment of empty barrels.
Receiving and sorting fruit.
Pumping over and punch downs during maceration.
Tracking and maintaining bonded and tax paid case good inventory.
Basic lab analysis (Brix, Temp, Ph, VA, Free SO2).
Data Entry using winemaker database software.
Requirement:
Knowledge of the wine fermentation process.
At least 3-5 months of harvest experience in a winery
Ability to lift ~50 lbs.
Team player with a willingness to learn and a positive, hard-working attitude. Able to follow instructions well
Ability to work 6 days per week during harvest.
Must be eligible to work in the USA.
This is a 4-6 month position to start, however, the right candidate can potentially become a full-time assistant winemaker. The opportunity to switch from a harvest position to full-time position will be discussed end November after harvest is over.
Salary DEO: Between $13.35-$16 per hour depending to experience
