We work closely with our retailer partners who are the leading sources of fine and rare wine for wine retailers, restaurants, and collectors around the world. 

Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Business Development Manager is responsible for building the business of the Companies by expanding and managing sourcing and selling and building the Companies’ brands through expansion of business relationships, events, public relations, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

· Acquisition of product from private and commercial sources, including finding and vetting sources, negotiating terms and providing associated logistics and inspection

· Opening and managing major new buying accounts, both private and commercial, including overseeing the mechanisms by which such clients can legally buy

· Find and build partnerships with the following:

o   Insurance and financial advisors

o   Wine cellar builders and designers

o   Wine storage companies

o   Private clubs (wine, golf, etc.)

o   Restaurants

o   Retailers

o   Distributors (within and outside DC)

o   Importers

o   Cellar service providers

o   Brokers

· Oversee in-house storage business, helping to establish processes and finding clients

· Participate in product selection for customer offers

· Oversee event program for northeast

· Travel as needed

· Effectively conduct meetings and presentations to a variety of audiences

· Prepare and complete action plans

· Identify and communicate trends

· Assure achievement of goals

· Work closely with the rest of the management team to grow The Companies, participating in strategic and tactical planning as well as implementation.

· Train, coach, and lead others as needed

· Assist other teams as needed 

· Assure that procedures and legal requirements are adhered to 

· Expand knowledge of, and ability & visibility in, the industry.

· Be a face of The Companies.

· Additional tasks to support The Companies as necessary

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

5+ years related experience. Formal wine training preferred, with at least a sommelier certification.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most complex documents.  Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective presentations to management.  

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed tasks by uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.

Work Environment:

Office / Warehouse: the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and type.  The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear.  The employee is required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
