Wine Service Cooperative (WSC) was formed in 1972 by wineries located primarily within Napa Valley to operate as an agricultural cooperative under the laws of the State of California. WSC provides storage facilities, receiving, shipping, consumer direct fulfillment, and transportation services to its 46 member wineries. WSC owns and operates a 182,000 sf warehouse in St. Helena, a 156,000 sf warehouse in South Napa and leases a 225,000 sf warehouse in South Napa.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a qualified Controller to join the management team and work with the current Controller who will be retiring near the end of 2020. The Controller manages and works with a small and efficient accounting team. The Controller is a key position that works closely with managers and employees across the company as well as external agencies, professionals, and service providers. The Controller manages and develops systems to ensure compliance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, financial controls, employment regulations, and federal and state wine tax regulations. In this environment the Controller’s responsibilities will range from day-to-day accounting transactions, to financial reporting, budgeting, Board presentations, banking administration, tax management, and other related areas.

Primary Responsibilities:
Manage all Accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger reconciliation, monthly closing, and financial reporting.
Responsible for Human Resources Administration and supervision of payroll processing.
Manage banking relationships to ensure efficient use of operating accounts and implementation of appropriate controls and fraud protection.
Maintain lender relationships and management of short-term and long-term debt.
Liaison with external IT contractors to administer a variety of data systems.
Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local regulatory requirements and provide all requested reports for TTB and ABC wine taxes audit.
Develop monthly and annual operating budgets at the department level.
Prepare monthly financial statements, reporting to management and the co-op Board. Analyze budget variances and trends and identify any corrective actions necessary.
Coordinate or generate information such as accounting records, operating reports and source documents for the annual CPA reviews, annual tax return and financial statements.
As part of the management team, develop long-term projections and analysis in support of strategic planning, facility needs, and capital requirements.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar experience.
Expertise and experience with a variety of data systems including proficient use typical Microsoft office tools.
