Description:   This is a full-time, tenure track instructor position in the Wine Technology program beginning Fall Quarter 2022. Summer Quarter teaching will be available subsequent to the starting date and is not considered part of the tenure process and is additional to the annual contracted teaching load and salary.

 

The new Wine Technology program is setting the foundation of wine education in Western Washington by offering courses in enology/viticulture, wine marketing and sales, and food and wine pairing. Course content is based on integration of liberal and technical education and draws upon a basic course of study in enology and informational wine education. Students are preparing for entry positions in the diverse job opportunities made available by the Washington wine industry. The program will place a strong emphasis on the process of winemaking from crush and bottling to the marketing of wine.

 

This position is to teach all winemaking courses in the given degree tract. The applicant should possess the ability to produce wines from multiple grape varietals, show proven skills in laboratory analysis, wine chemistry and micro-biology, elementary to advanced enological techniques, including multiple styles of fermentation practices and small batch production as well as basic viticulture. Responsibilities will include the daily operation of a small college run winery. Knowledge in all required TTB, tracking procedures is necessary. This position will include program coordinator responsibilities including class scheduling, program assessment, course development & revision, faculty liaison, faculty selection, working with the technical advisory board and creating visibility for the program through development if strong industry partners. 

 

Familiarity and use of instructional technology and alternative teaching approaches for the adult learner are important. Student advising and committee work are also part of the instructor workload for this position.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:   Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Enology, Viticulture or related discipline and proven industry experience. Ability to meet and fulfill Washington State and Seattle Community College’s Vocational and Technical Education Instructor’s Certificate. (Certificate is not a prerequisite to hiring) A minimum of two years teaching experience working with non-traditional adult learners and various ethnic and socio-economic groups is required. Experience in curriculum development and outcomes oriented student assessment models. Applicant must have proven skill in computer literacy, familiarity with electronic communications, ie email, internet and knowledge of interactive learning software teaching the course content.
