Vineyard and Harvest Assistant (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Full Time

  Shelburne Vineyard (http://www.shelburnevineyard.com)

  Shelburne, Vermont

Shelburne Vineyard (SV) in Shelburne, VT is looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual to fulfill the position of Vineyard Hand and Harvest Assistant for the 2022 vintage.  SV is a well-established winery committed to growing and producing the highest quality Vermont wine, including the Iapetus brand launched in 2016. We are located just a few miles south of Burlington, the region’s vibrant cultural hub. We manage ~25 acres of cold-hardy hybrids (and a small planting of Riesling) at several sites in the unique Champlain Valley growing region. The candidate will have the opportunity to work intimately with one of the largest commercial vineyard and winery operations in the state, developing widely applicable wine industry experience. This is a labor-intensive position and applicants must exhibit a strong desire to perform strenuous physical work for extended periods of time - working long, irregular hours, especially during the 6-8wk harvest period beginning in September. Approximate start date is mid-March and approximate end date is mid-October, with flexibility on either end.

In the vineyard, the chosen candidate will work as part of our current team to maintain vines during the growing season to maximize fruit development and quality. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, shoot thinning, shoot positioning, leaf pulling, hand weeding, bird netting and trellis repair. In the winery, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting with bottling operations, participating in tastings, working the crush pad, cleaning tanks and equipment.

If you are a driven and collaborative individual with an exceptional work ethic looking for a great career opportunity, then this position is right for you. Successful applicants will have a passion for agriculture and wine, with experience or education related to viticulture preferred. Reliable transportation is a must, as is a willingness to work extended hours appropriate to seasonal demands, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. A reasonable flexibility in work schedule and position term is also an important consideration. This is an hourly position starting at $17/hr for 40hrs/wk with OT.

Qualifications

·         At least 1yr experience and/or education in agriculture (preferably viticulture). Enology experience is a strong plus

·         Comfortable working around tractors, farm equipment, trucks and trailers, and a fork lift

·         Must be able to lift 60lbs

·         Valid driver’s license with a clean record

·         Good communication skills

·         Capable of working well on a team or individually
