To lead us through the next stage of growth and guide us through an exciting new project, the company is seeking an experienced General Manager and leader with a proven track record of exceptional performance in the wine industry. This position is a great opportunity for the right candidate to further grow a successful wine business. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, interpersonal, team building and management skills, be able to build, manage and nurture partnerships, construct effective systems, and have the financial skills to build and implement both short- and long-term business plans and budgets.
Responsibilities:
The General Manager is the nucleus of the company. He/she will directly manage a small team of 5-6 full time colleagues, and a small cohort of 3rd party services and will work hand-in-hand with the winemaker and ownership overseeing a growing 2,000 case winery, 15-acre vineyard, and thriving wine country lodging business. Each day is dynamic. Every day is different. The job requires demonstrated success in winery operations, financials, strategic thinking, problem solving, wine industry knowledge, employee relations and small business operations.
1. Strategy
- Execute Ownership Vision
- Build and Present Annual Company Business Plan & Budget
- Lead Quarterly Company and Monthly Financial Meetings w/Ownership
- Create and Monitor Supply Chain Management & Wine Portfolio Strategy
- Build and Implement Company Sales Strategy
- Review Industry & Company Analysis
2. Finance
- Track Month/Quarter & Annual Budgets vs. Actuals
- Work with Bookkeeper to Create Quarterly Balance Sheet & Income Statements
- Manage and Forecast Cash Flows
- Annual Tax Prep w/Bookkeeper and CPA
- Debt Management & Forecast
- Maintain and Strengthen Banking & Accounting Relationships
- Create and Present 3-5 Year Proformas
3. Direct to Consumer Sales
- Build DTC Strategy & Forecasts
- Execute Allocation Strategy with DTC Sales Manager & Marketing Manager
- Build Lists for DTC Initiatives and Direct Marketing Campaign
4. Wholesale
- Build/Lead Wholesale Strategy & Forecasts
- Manage distributor relationships with 3rd party sales consultants
- Manage CA wine brokers
- Oversee wholesale fulfillment management
- Account relationship management
5. Operations
- Leadership of the team
- Quarterly inventory management
- Manage 3rd Party Compliance Team on Taxes, Licenses and Reporting
- Manage and execute company insurance needs
- Lead Human Resource & office management
Required Competencies and Credentials:
• Excellent analytical and strategy skills with strong attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with ethical, organized project management skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong background and demonstrated success in marketing and sales.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. A working knowledge of VineSpring, Commerce7 a plus
• Must have a valid CA driver’s license
