Dehlinger 2019 Harvest Internships (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Dehlinger is a small, family run winery that has been in operation since 1975. We focus on producing Estate grown Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet from Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, and we have a national reputation that outstrips our physical size. 

We are seeking two to three highly motivated harvest interns to join our staff for the 2019 harvest period. One of the positions will be for approximately 4-5 months, starting late June/early July 2019 finishing mid to late November 2019. The other position/s will be for approximately 3 months from mid to late August 2019 until mid November 2019. The actual start and finish dates are dependent on the season and intern availability. 

The Dehlinger internship program is very rewarding and covers many aspects of the vineyard, cellar and laboratory. It also offers the opportunity to work closely with the winemakers. 

Harvest duties may include, but are not limited to: 
•  Crop estimation
•  Vineyard sampling
•  Picking grapes
•  Fruit processing
•  Inoculations
•  Fermentation monitoring
•  Cap management (punchdown/pumpovers)
•  Cleaning
•  Barrel work (cleaning & filling)
•  Forklift operation
•  Laboratory work (minimum of 1 day per week to support Enologist)
•  Record keeping (paper records and VinTrace winemaking software)
•  Vineyard leafing (seasonally dependent)
•  Vineyard pruning (seasonally dependent)

Training will be provided in all areas.

In addition to the harvest duties there may also be some bottling work and the participation in a hospitality event in November.

Ideal qualifications: 
•  Passion for wine and a desire to have a career in the wine industry
•  Coursework in Enology and Viticulture
•  Some forklift experience
•  Previous cellar work, ideally at least one vintage
•  Some laboratory experience
•  Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
•  Physical stamina to complete cellar tasks
•  Ability to work long and variable hours
•  Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, such as lifting up to 50 pounds, repetitive movements, bending down, and ascend/descend ladders
•  Reliability and schedule flexibility
•  Must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license. Must be insurable by our insurance company.
•  Ability to lawfully work in the USA. 

Because we have a small staff, our interns must be dependable and adaptable. They must be able to commit to the internship and not drop out prior to or during harvest. 

During the peak harvest period, our interns will be expected to work 5 or 6 days a week. Outside the peak harvest period, work may be reduced to 4 or 5 days a week. 

Internship compensation will be $16 per hour with overtime based on California law. We can also provide rental housing if needed. Please specify in your application if rental accommodation is of interest.
