Job Description:
Martin Ray Winery sits in the heart of the Russian River Valley where we specialize in a diverse array of wines that are showcased through two labels. We crush approximately 2,500 tons, and produce everything from Russian River Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, to Stags Leap and Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon. We are a small team, dedicated to quality at every level.
We are looking for someone to join our production team as a Lab Technician. The successful candidate will train with our current Lab Technician and Enologist. The ideal candidate will be a hardworking, self-motivated individual capable of performing all aspects of lab analysis. The candidate must be flexible, easy-going, and willing to perform tasks outside the normal realm of laboratory work. Experience with WMDB software a plus. This is a full-time, hourly paid position
Job Description:
• Perform all necessary grape, juice, must and wine chemistry including: Free and total SO2 by A/O, TA, pH, VA, alcohol, brix, residual sugar, malic acid, turbidity, etc.
• Preparation of trial solutions
• Set up wine trials as dictated by the winemakers
• Assist with bottling line QA/QC
• Communicate all lab analyses in a timely matter to the winemaking team
• Assist in record keeping and data entry
• Other tasks, both within and outside the lab, as requested by the winemaking team.
Qualifications:
• Experience in all aspects of wine lab analysis.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently, and demonstrate accuracy and precision under minimal supervision.
• Ability to analyze results, troubleshoot, and look for errors and outlying data.
• Flexible work schedule and ability to work in fast-paced environment with potentially long hours, including weekends during the harvest season.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently English, and Spanish bilingual preferred but not required.
• Should have completed basic enology coursework or worked at least one harvest in a winery lab.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, including maintenance of a clean and organized workspace.
• Successful candidates should have the ability to stand for long periods of time and be able to lift 45 lbs. This position requires a high level of energy, and candidates should be aware of the physical demands of working in a fast-paced winery during crush.
• And most importantly, absolutely must have a good sense of humor.
