Position: General Manager

Summary:

 

Gibson Wine Company is hiring for the position of General Manager.  The General Manager is responsible for directing the organization to ensure effective and profitable operations and growth.  The position reports to the President and Board of Directors.

Gibson Wine Company, a cooperative association, produces approximately 7 Million gallons of wine annually.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.       Maintains an efficient, safe, and professional work environment for all employees.  This includes all winery operations.

2.       Operates and conducts responsibilities with grower return and house sustainability as the primary goals.

3.       Oversees and schedules harvest deliveries.

4.       Supervises all winery staff according to established organizational charts, office personnel, plant operations and maintenance, sales and shipping.  Responsible for staff performance, development, training, and evaluation according to accepted labor relations and professionalism in the workplace.

5.       Establishes and maintains grower relations.  Is responsive to grower needs and communicates effectively.

6.       Interfaces with other wineries and other industry representatives and represents growers in the areas of sales equity, marketing, and product safety.  Implements and evaluates employee and product safety, marketing, and related industry demands as required.

7.       Serves as liaison with auditors, legal counsel, and insurance providers.

8.       Responsible for overall financial health of the winery, including production, bottling, and sales.  Responsible for the daily expenditures, payroll, and account balances as well as grower account accuracy and adequacy.  Supervises all cash, checking, and investment accounts.  Approves capital expenditures with the exception of those requiring board approval, and supervises implementation of all such projects.

9.       Develops short and long term plans for winery maintenance and growth, monitors and manages strategic planning for product projections, sales projections, and future industry trends.

 

Other Job Duties:

 

1.       Interfaces with industry partners in the advancement of member goals.

2.       Represents member interests on industry boards and commissions as deemed needed.

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

 

·         Possesses a thorough knowledge of winery processes and procedures including wine production, packing, sales, and the wine industry in general.

·         Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with a great variety of people in a tactful and skilled manner, often under stressful conditions.

·         Demonstrates a firm grasp of the financial, mechanical, and safety procedures inherent in winery management.

·         Possesses a strong ability to organize, analyze and manage detailed information.

·         May be required to travel to fields to monitor fruit condition and harvesting operations.

·         Must be available to travel on domestic marketing trips.
