We’re looking for a Tastings & Sales Associate who loves wine with genuine, infectious enthusiasm... someone who can walk a guest through a lineup of wines and leave them feeling like they just had a minor revelation. We do things a little differently, and are looking for someone who wants to help us grow and have a little fun!
Perhaps you're a working sommelier who is looking for some producer-side experience, a wine lover who wants real-world immersion, or you're someone loves people and telling stories and wants to help spread the word about one of the most exciting new wine projects in the US.
This is a part-time position for $20 plus tips. We’re hoping for 3–4 days per week, but 1-2 days is also workable for the right person. Weekends are non-negotiable.
Duties
- Lead guided tastings and help guests understand our wines with confidence, context, and personality
- For those who are keen: host in-depth reserve wine tastings and vineyard tours, crafting custom experiences for guests who want to go deeper
- Follow up personally with guests after their visit to continue the conversation and build lasting relationships
- Support the GM with wine club logistics, including packing and shipping member orders as needed
- Assist with general tasting room upkeep: glassware, restocking, opening and closing procedures
- Contribute to the general creative weirdness of the Apollo’s Praise... ideas welcome, always
- Optional: Represent Apollo’s Praise at in-store tastings and pop-up events in Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo (with some travel as needed)
Who You Are
- Genuinely passionate about wine and the Finger Lakes
- A natural communicator who can talk to a first-time wine drinker and a seasoned enthusiast or collector in the same afternoon, and make both feel seen
- Detail-oriented and reliable, and comfortable working independently and as part of a very small team
- 21 years of age or older
- Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs (wine is heavy!)
- Able to stand for extended periods during tastings and events
- Holds a valid driver’s license and has reliable transportation
Nice to have (but not required):
- WSET, CMS, or other formal wine education (or interest in pursuing wine knowledge actively!)
- Experience in hospitality, fine dining, retail wine, or a tasting room environment
- Familiarity with the Finger Lakes wine region and wine styles/varieties
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 25.0 per week
