The Hospitality Director will oversee one of the most important components of the Ram’s Gate Winery – the proper delivery of all wine and food to guests and members. It is expected that the Hospitality Director will be an active leader in not only their direct responsibilities, but all aspects of Ram’s Gate Winery, constantly searching for ways in which to improve overall winery operations. This position requires a passionate appreciation and respect for wine, guest service, the culinary arts as well as desire to educate and share this with our staff, members and guests.


General Responsibilities

·       Lead all Winery hospitality operations including the service of wine and food for daily wine pairings, private parties, cooking demonstrations/classes, marketing and member events. 

·       Be responsible for refining all service standards, procedures and offerings.

·       Be personally and actively involved with membership so as to be recognized as the point person for hospitality operations.

·       Be passionate about wine and food, providing excellent, personalized wine service and education to our members and guests.

·       Create an optimum visitor experience through consistent, thorough communication and leadership with all levels of staff including Executive Chef, Finance Director, Sales and Marketing Director, Membership Director, Winemaker, Assistant Winemaker, General Manager direct service team and our consultants and contractors.

·       Actively interested in sharing information with supervisor, peers, reports, guests and members.


Service and Concierge Teams – Hospitality

·       Oversee all staffing, orientation, training, motivating and creating an efficient, highly competent, personable service culture.

·        Consistently provide staff constructive and specific detailed feedback regarding their performance with tactful and personal delivery so that individuals understand how and why to make changes in their daily behavior to better their performance in the Winery’s operation.

·       Ensure that each staff member is provided an in-depth annual performance evaluation and wage review.

·       Constantly strive to introduce creative, new enhancements to the sequence of service and operational amenities.

·       Personally respond to all member related inquiries, concerns and opportunities in a timely manner

·       Closely monitor the guest experience making adjustments and assisting whenever necessary.

·       Oversee all operations of the Tasting Room including cover counts, table turns,

·       Assist and Coach the Concierge team with all aspects of taking phone reservations, appointments and bookings, seating charts and arrangements.


Financial Success

·       Demonstrate the ability to analyze, evaluate and report on all components related to tasting and private room operations.

·       Create annual business plans, with periodic review and refinement.  Analyze monthly P&L statements.  Maintain budgeted operating and labor costs.  Identify opportunities to enhance both revenues and bottom line profitability.

·       Manage the point of sale process and system so that the guest/member experience is efficient and accurate. Also, that the system records and organizes sales the best manner possible for accounting and analysis.

·       Develop, implement and manage an employee incentive program.



·       Continually educate the service team on wine service, wines, vineyards and winemaking.

·       Lead tastings to evaluate and pair food items with wines in the best manner possible.

·       Be actively involved in the sales and marketing of wines and memberships to tasting room visitors, members and event guests.

·       Conduct daily staff “huddles” and education tastings on a regular basis

·       Partner with the Executive Chef to price, describe and promote menu items.


Sales and Marketing

·       Achieve membership conversion, bottles sales and average check goals.

·       Develop and implement membership marketing programs and tactics that are utilized by the tasting room staff to ensure we are maximizing the opportunity to sign-up new members.

·       Create wine centric activities and events for the education and enjoyment of members, guests and the service team.



·       Independently motivated with excellent managerial and leadership skills in all essential job functions.

·       Excellent business management skills and understanding Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.

·       Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to fine detail. Friendly and attentive manner towards guests and Ram’s Gate Winery team members.

·       Ability to work effectively with internal and external teams to gain consensus and achieve goals.

·       Creative, strategic thinker who knows how to use marketing channels and personal communication to gain customer loyalty and new members.

·       Advanced writing and communication skills with a polished, professional presentation.

·       Self-motivated and willing to assume additional responsibilities.

·       Ability to anticipate future challenges and respond appropriately.

·       Ability to work in a team environment and perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Company’s policies.
