Position Summary: 
The Associate Winemaker independently and as part of a team manages and coordinates all aspects of the winemaking for specific brands and job responsibilities under the supervision of the Consulting Winemaker. The goal is to produce a well-balanced portfolio of high quality, award winning wines for Pope Valley Winery.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Creates distinctive, high quality styles of wines, taking direction from Owner, COO,VP of Operations, Director of Winemaking and others. 
•  Oversees all wine production with concentration on white and rose wine programs, other red programs as assigned and serves as second in command of the laboratory operations in the absence of the Enologist. 
•  Coordinates/participates in blending and tasting of bulk wines. 
•  Establishes Harvest season winemaking standards (grape sugars/acids, processing, finishing, etc.).
• Designates appropriate wines for selected programs. 
•  Actively participates in crush, which requires an extended work schedule and requires overnight travel.
Oversees sulfur storage levels of all produced wines at all production and storage facilities as assigned
• Enters accurate data into Winemaker’s Data Base (WMDB) to track bulk wine movements. 
•  Participates in sourcing bulk wines and negotiating price and purchase agreements.
• Develops and maintains bulk wine monthly reports to provide a clear view of inventory on hand.
• Communicates effectively and maintains strong working relationships with team.
•  Manages working relationships and large inventories of wine between multiple facilities. 
•  Provides necessary information for production planning.
• Actively participates in and abide by all HACCP and ISO programs as part of DSS compliance.
• Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required. 

Education/Experience/Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Viticulture, a related field or equivalent experience 2-5 years enology/winemaking experience. 
•  Extensive knowledge of winemaking and different wine styles.
• Understanding intricacies of winemaking and relationships with growers, clients, sales force and internal customers.
• Experience with medium to large volume producers is a plus (10k-30k case) 
• Proficient on common software including Outlook, Power Point, etc. 
• Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method.
• Prior experience at managing people.
