Job Summary
The Lead Tasting Room Host is a senior, guest-facing role responsible for delivering exceptional wine experiences while also serving as the shift leader for daily tasting room operations. This position holds keys to the building and is trusted with opening and closing procedures, cash accountability, staff coordination, and frontline customer service leadership.
This is a part-time, on-site role with a clearly defined path to a Tasting Room Manager position for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Service Leadership
- Lead by example in delivering warm, engaging, and knowledgeable wine tasting experiences
- Set the tone for hospitality, professionalism, and inclusivity on every shift
- Handle elevated customer service situations and guest concerns with confidence and care
- Ensure all guests feel welcomed, valued, and invited to return
Opening & Closing the Tasting Room
- Open and close the tasting room according to established SOPs
- Secure the building, cash, wine inventory, and equipment
- Complete opening and end-of-day checklists accurately and consistently
- Serve as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts
Cash Handling & Accountability
- Prepare, balance, and reconcile cash tills and POS reports
- Ensure accurate processing of transactions, tips, and daily sales
- Report discrepancies promptly and professionally
- Maintain trust, transparency, and attention to detail in all financial handling
Team Coordination & Break Management
- Coordinate staff breaks and shift flow to ensure seamless guest service
- Provide real-time direction and support to tasting room hosts
- Assist with onboarding and coaching of new team members
- Communicate staffing needs or challenges to management
Sales & Wine Club Leadership
- Consistently drive bottle sales and wine club enrollment
- Support team members with wine club conversations and closing techniques
- Model best practices for storytelling, discovery questions, and closing tastings
Operational Excellence
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the tasting room
- Ensure compliance with alcohol service laws, safety standards, and company policies
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service flow, and guest satisfaction
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of wine, hospitality, or customer-facing experience
- Prior experience as a shift lead, key holder, or senior service role preferred
- Strong oral communication and guest engagement skills
- Proven ability to handle customer service issues calmly and professionally
- Experience with cash handling and POS systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
- Ability to lead peers while maintaining a collaborative, respectful team dynamic
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and special events
