Enologist II (Goldeneye Winery) (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

SUMMARY: 
Under the direction of the Goldeneye Winemaker, the Enologist will coordinate, review, and participate in the activities involved in the operation of the wine cellar and laboratory.  This position will be responsible for directly maintaining the quality of all bulk inventories in addition to overseeing duties in the laboratory and cellar to meet production requirements and schedules. All Duckhorn Wine Company safety procedures will be applied to daily winery operations.  At all times will maintain the integrity and quality of the product while adhering to Duckhorn Wine Company’s philosophy and mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Harvest
  • Supervise laboratory intern
  • Track all wine movements and additions
  • Perform laboratory analysis alongside/in absence of intern
  • Organize and schedule all laboratory analysis, both in-house and outside sources from the direction of Winemaker
  • Record data and present analysis
  • Monitor daily fermentations alongside/in absence of intern
  • Perform any enological calculations and additions
  • Perform general cellar work when needed
Bulk wine and aging procedures
  • Participate in all monthly tastings and blending sessions
  • Track all wine movements and additions
  • Perform all in-house laboratory analysis and organize all outside laboratory analysis
  • Record data and present analysis to Winemaker
  • Perform cellar work when needed
  • Order and inventory winery and laboratory supplies
  • Perform bench trials and present analysis to Winemaker
Bottling
  • Prepare wines for bottling, including: analysis, trials, tastings, tracking, and filtration
  • Inventory and track bottling supplies
  • Oversee that DWC QA and QC standards are met
  • Work on bottling line when/where needed
Responsible for the maintenance of all record keeping
  • Record all wine movements, additions, and analysis
  • Maintain laboratory and bottling logs
  • Maintain safety and training manuals
Organizational
  • Work with the Winemaker to develop and implement cellar procedures, lab operations, bottling procedures, and training plans.
  • In the absence of the Winemaker, the Goldeneye Enologist will be responsible for efficiently organizing and implementing all cellar and safety procedures as instructed by the Winemaker.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Viticulture or related field preferable
  • Minimum 2 yrs. experience in laboratory, 3 yrs. experience in wine production
  • Excellent computer skills, Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Bi-lingual - Spanish/English desirable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work 10-12-hour days and weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
  • Ability to drive a car   
  • Ability to drive a fork lift
  • Ability to stand for long periods at a time
  • Ability to pull, push, kneel, bend, reach
