Tasting Room Sales Associate (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Black Knight Cellars is looking for one or two individuals to join our family run winery. Black Knight Cellars is a woman-owned winery known for our extensive collection of sparkling, pinot noir, and chardonnay wines. All the grapes are grown on our family vineyard located in the Petaluma Wind Gap on the top of Taylor Mountain. Black Knight Cellars maintains a winery at the vineyard and a separate tasting room located in the heart of downtown Petaluma. We are currently looking for part-time assistance in the tasting room.

Our tasting room atmosphere is engaging, professional and knowledgeable. When our guests arrive they receive a unique urban winery experience in downtown Petaluma that ties directly into our vineyard lifestyle. Our team engages and learns about our guests, presents our wine, explains the family story, introduces our wine club, and describes the winemaking basics behind the wines. Our tasting room is open Thursdays-Sundays from 12-8pm and we are looking to add another day or two a week. Average hours scheduled per week are from 8-24 hours, and may include weekday evenings for corporate events. This position has flexibility to become a full time position if a qualified and well matched applicant has motivation to take on a variety of roles within the tasting room and winery.

QUALIFICATIONS:
21 years or older
Prior tasting room experience is preferred but not required.
Experience in sales, customer service and/or hospitality
Reliability is a must
Knowledge of wine and wine production preferred
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends
Ability to engage with each customer and provide excellent customer service
Ability to communicate in a knowledgeable, professional, and gracious manner to all guests in the tasting room
Engaging and enthusiastic personality.
Ability to manage changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Able to stand for long periods at a time and move cases of wine (30-50 lbs)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that all guests are greeted immediately upon entry to the Tasting Room
ID guests to ensure each is of legal age to consume alcohol
Provide samples of wine within CA ABC laws
Pursue sales opportunities and encourage guests to buy wines and join the wine club
Clearly and concisely communicate the benefits of wine club membership and enroll new members
Achieve or exceed established sales and club membership goals
Maintain high visual standards to ensure a pleasant environment (Help keep displays clean, bottles dusted, glasses buffed, etc.)
Use a POS Operating system to transact sales and maintain TR inventory (training will be provided)
Prepare tasting room with opening & closing duties
Some limited food prep may be required

Salary Range: $18 - $25/hour depending on experience. Commission based compensation may be negotiable.

Training on all aspects of the job will be provided.
