Description
Position Summary: Adhere to company goals optimizing laboratory work towards quality, safety and efficiency. Perform analysis according to approved SOPs and provide reliable analytical results to winemaking and enological staff.
Essential Functions:
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot basic analytical instrument systems
• Establish and maintain quality assurance records and work station records
• Perform routine and non-routine analysis related to wine manufacturing
• Recognize techniques or practices that yield noncompliant data or analytical performance
• Record and report analytical results
• Review and be responsible to content accuracy and relevance of SOPs
• Train and mentor new laboratory technicians
• Support procedures for health and safety, good housekeeping practices and good stewardship in waste management.
• Coordinate work with others
Non-Essential Functions:
• Maintain chemical safety awareness
• Maintain control of supply inventory
• Other related duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
• Laboratory environment working with wine laboratory chemicals. PPE eye protection required at all times and additional PPE is task dependent
• Work indoors in close proximity with others in lab setting; Work outdoors and/or cellar, periodically.
• Requires extended work hours during harvest season and some evenings and/or weekends
• Warehouse and manufacturing environment working with large volumes of wine, wine packaging materials and glassware
• 50-60 hour work week during harvest period
Physical Requirements:
• Lift push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds weight
• Perform work with arms extended forward, to the side, or overhead
• Perform work in sitting or standing position for extended periods of time
• Perform work with use of a step stool or ladder.
• Bachelor degree in Chemistry, bio-chemistry or related science field preferred
• Analytical laboratory experience with background in both analytical chemistry and operation of laboratory instrument systems
• Practical experience in a manufacturing laboratory is preferred
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation
• Excellent math and computation skills essential; accuracy in computations and legible record keeping a must.
• Computerized data entry and inventory skills essential.
• Must be able to work extended hours and shift rotation.
• History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
