SUMMARY
Ensures that all winery and vineyard equipment and tools are in a good and safe working condition to make classic wines. Insists on quality in workmanship. Has a good understanding of the principles of winemaking and viticulture that guide Opus One and how to implement and manage them in a safe, practical, and efficient manner. Works with other members of the Facility team to allocate work and to coordinate equipment and supplies for specific jobs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned.

•  Performs preventative maintenance on all vineyard, winemaking and winery equipment with a special focus on motors. If any damage or malfunction is found, repairs are made timely and longer repairs are scheduled through supervisor. 
•  Applies their deep understanding of oils and lubricants and their impact on the longevity of motors and equipment.
•  Makes needed repairs on portable equipment and assists in major repairs to allow work to proceed, keeping safety as the number one priority. 
•  Performs all vineyard and winery maintenance, including basic electrical work, welding, basic plumbing and pipe fitting, motor and machine repair and basic fabrication (including heavy physical labor. 
•  Works with the Vineyard Equipment Technician in coordinating all vineyard mechanical activities. and ensures the timely planning, preparation, and completion of all operations. 
•  Assist Skilled and Production Mechanics in troubleshooting and repairing equipment. 
•  Assist with painting jobs
•  Set-up and use the following types of welding equipment: Oxyacetylene & Arc (stick, MIG, TIG)
•  Respond to emergency calls, rotate on-call as needed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
•  Drive Company or personal vehicle to pick-up and deliver parts and supplies.
•  Drive forklift to move supplies and equipment.
•  Assist in the implementation and completion of all assigned cultural operations.
•  Work within your area of expertise, knowing when to ask for help.
•  Work toward maintaining and improving assigned work areas.
•  Maintain equipment and tools that you use to insure proper working order at all time (PM’s).
•  Do cleanup in assigned areas and in areas where currently working.
•  Supply necessary hand tools to vineyard crew and facilities team
•  Assist with frost control.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
A minimum of 3 years general experience and/or vocational training in machine blueprint reading and repair, oxyacetylene arc and stainless-steel welding and plumbing/pipe fitting. A minimum of 3 years general and/or vocational training in one of the following areas: refrigeration; machining/tool and die making; concrete work; carpentry; equipment operation; advanced sheet metal work and welding; advanced electrical; or painting and coating. Fluency in both English and Spanish, verbal and written proficiency is required. Must have experience in the operation of vineyard equipment and tools, including pump stations and irrigation systems. Previous vineyard maintenance experience preferred.

Skills
Must be able to perform consistent, quality work, with minimal supervision. Must use proper safety equipment and follow safety precautions at all times. In addition to understanding and working with gasoline, diesel, and electric motors and hydraulics, performs one of the following advanced skills: machining/tool and die making; concrete work; carpentry; equipment operation and repair; advanced sheet metal work and welding; advanced electrical; or painting and coating. Ability to use tools such as drills, grinders, saws, and miscellaneous hand tools. Basic computer skills and abilities (Work, Excel, Outlook) are required. Excellent follow through and project assignment skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels at Opus One. Able to prioritize and organize, meet deadlines with accuracy, work independently, and understand basic financial management. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions is required. Must be able to lift and carry 70 lbs. Must be able to stand/walk/stoop/bend/kneel for a minimum of 9 hours per day. Must be able to climb stairs to work platforms 14 feet or more in height. Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including overtime, when need arises. 

Working Conditions
Work is mainly in the winery facility and vineyard equipment shop. Noise levels are usually low to moderate.
