Indie Wineries launched in 2011 and has grown to be an importer and distributor of a beautiful, highly selective portfolio of small, artisanal producers hailing primarily from Europe (with a strong contingent from Italy). Our producers represent a range of styles from classical to natural, but we don’t like to pigeon hole ourselves into any one palate of wine.
One of our core tenets is to support producers who work with organically farmed vineyards. We don’t tell producers how to make their wine because we are not the winemakers, but we do deeply believe in representing great wine. To do this, we look intensely at both the person behind the wine, their intentions in the cellar, the authenticity in their craft, and their ability to execute all of that consistently in their bottlings.

Our imported portfolio is represented across 25 states, 5 of which we distribute directly in. Our headquarters are in New York City, and it is here that we are looking for the best candidate to join our team as a Wine Consultant to sell our entire portfolio directly in the market. In this role, we will assign ownership to manage and grow a core run of accounts, which requires a hungry, motivated entrepreneurial spirit- one who 
lives to build your own business. To be successful, we are favoring candidates with previous wine sales experience as a wholesaler, but we are open to candidates who have broader general wine business experience and also that incredible entrepreneurial gene. 

Our hiring process takes some time. We are looking for the right fit, and we expect that the candidate will be looking for the right fit as well. To that extent, we are looking to start this process for a September start.

The Details:

TERRITORY

  • Predominantly Manhattan, but extending into the other Boroughs as relationships allow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages and grows a territory of both established and growing clients with the aim of providing those clients full visibility on Indie Wineries’ portfolio, incoming inventories, portfolio growth and opportunities, various tastings and events, and general company happenings.
  • Participates in team-based events including tastings, dinners, trips, etc..
  • Executes requested producer sales team market visits.
  • Works with Indie Wineries’ accounting department to resolve any billing issues within their designated territory in order to maintain required COD compliance.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Attends meetings and company driven functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This job is physical. You will be required to lift up to 35 lbs. You will be walking 1-5 miles each day you are in the market. You should be comfortable doing both.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-2 years of experience directly in the wine industry.
  • Defined as: Wholesale wine rep or in a wholesale capacity, wine buyer, or #2 (assistant) to a wine buyer.
  • Demonstrates computer proficiency including the primary Microsoft Office suite apps (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, etc), and if possible Sevenfifty and Vinosmith (or similar wine industry-based CRM)
  • Valid Driver's License or government issued ID.
