Associate Buyer is responsible for supporting the wine retail department for items coming in with a primary focus on its New York business. As needed, the role also requires assisting activities related to other wine retail location business.
Primary responsibilities include item management, competitive reviews, stock-level management, vendor management, as well as administrative tasks such as payment processing and in-store merchandising.
Responsibilities (Buying)
- Ensure in-stock position of essential inventory primarily in New York (but secondarily in Hong Kong) via replenishment purchases or other means
- Create sell through strategy for excessive inventory
- Benchmark to competitor’s pricing
- Assist in processing shipments from abroad with third party vendors
- Manages SKU creation process for categories
- Creating new vendors and updating vendor info
- Update SKU ratings, and fix any issues related to SKU
- Ensure new items are correctly and accurately received
- Create weekly meeting reports
- Manage Own Label category:
- Track inventory
- Order new vintage
- Develop strategy for slow moving items
- Allocate wine to the correct channels
- Manage End of Life process
Responsibilities (Support)
- Receive, and park vendor invoices for the wine & spirits department (inventory, shipping, supplies, etc.)
- Review invoices and split expenses between auction/retail and what spend type is applicable
- Monitor and reply to emails received at [email protected]
- Contact vendors for outgoing payments and answer payment inquiries
- Communicate with AP and AFE to coordinate payments and request exceptions
- Mail out vendor checks when applicable
- Request approval from business managers for weekly wine department expenses
- Do a weekly sweep of all POs on SAP to check payment status or if any issues with posting
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and priority management
- Technology literate using various desktop and web-based applications
- Strong data-analysis skills using relational database or spreadsheet
- Ability to work under pressure
- WSET Level 3 or higher knowledge of wine (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and interests in spirits a plus
- Understanding of 3 tier system a plus
- Prior use of SAP a strong plus
