Wine Shop Team Member
(Wine Jobs:
Wine Retail & Sommelier)
Part Time
Minneapolis,
Minnesota
Job Type: Part-Time/Full-Time
About Us: Sip Better is a small, community-focused wine shop dedicated to providing our customers with an exceptional selection of wines, beers, spirits, non alcoholic options and a small section of THC/CBD products. We pride ourselves on educating our guests about our offerings and sharing our passion for quality beverages. Join our team and help us create memorable experiences for our customers!
WE ARE A SMALL SHOP in the north loop of Minneapolis, MN that provides a one-on-one retail experience like no other. We are extremely customer oriented, providing friendly wine knowledge + stellar guest service to all who come into our shop. If you love people, know a bit about wine and would like a part time side hustle, we could be the right fit for YOU.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR outgoing, personable, friendly, wine savvy, reliable, FUN people to help us run our brick-and-mortar wine shop!
MUST BE ABLE TO work most weekends. A good base of wine knowledge is required. This is a part time position that could potentially lead to working full time in store with some off-site events with Leslee + her wine consulting firm, Amusée.
Must be able to lift 36-40# wine cases and are physically able to carry boxes out for customers + help with days we accept 100+ cases during wine club shipments.
Please do NOT respond to this posting if you do not have any wine knowledge. The basics are required. A sommelier certificate is not required, however, we are an indie wine shop and our grapes and regions can be obscure. Having some background in wine is absolutely needed here. Pls look at our website: sipbetter.com before applying. We do provide a great deal of training re: each of our products via video + in person training.
Job Responsibilities:
- Customer Engagement: Welcome customers into Sip Better, introducing them to our offerings and our unique story. Provide exceptional customer service, building relationships and ensuring a positive shopping experience.
- Sales & Education: Educate customers on our diverse selection of wines, beers, and spirits while recommending products based on their preferences. Actively sell and promote our membership club, explaining its features and benefits to prospective members.
- Store Operations: Open and close the shop, ensuring a smooth operation during approximately 9-hour shifts. Maintain a clean and organized sales floor, assisting with the setup and breakdown of in-store tasting activations.
- Member Assistance: Assist Sip Better members with picking up their orders, answering any questions regarding their memberships, and providing detailed product knowledge to each person that enters our business.
- Inventory Management: Help the owner with tasks such as making boxes, washing glassware, and managing stock levels.
- Shipping Responsibilities: Collaborate with the owner to assist with shipping orders, utilizing a built-in automated system provided during training.
- Event Support: Participate in special Amusée events, both on-site and off-site, with additional compensation available for your involvement.
This position can also include (depending on applicant's experience):
- Business Development: Explore opportunities for local business partnerships, neighborhood outreach, and expanding our online presence. Engage with outlying communities to spread the word about Sip Better.
- Content Contribution: Assist in creating a feature table, generating ideas for our monthly newsletter, and providing input for our social media team.
Qualifications:
- Passion for wines, spirits, and customer service.
- No snooty booty wine brats, please.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn about wine education with potential certification reimbursements after 9 months of employment.
- Prior experience in retail or customer service is a plus, but not required.
Benefits:
- Competitive pay of $20 per hour.
- Opportunities for wine education certifications reimbursed after 9 months of employment.
- Engaging work environment with a focus on community and education.
Special Note: This is truly more of an 'on premise' feel vs. a retail shop feel. We meet folks at the door and walk them through our Sip Better philosophy and wine set. This is NOT a position where you sit behind the counter + let folks come to you. We are also not a shop where this is about your palate. We are here to expand guests' palates beyond what they might like according to the info they share with us re: their own palate, likes and how they might enjoy the wine they are about to purchase with us. It is a very hands-on position. We provide loads and loads and loads of training, including a full online system I have built that includes video, winery, glassware, serving temps, pairing + tech note details re: every wine we have in store.
You must be friendly, coachable, knowledgeable re: wine + a true hospitalian.
Our shop is open 11am-7pm. Hours would be 10am-7pm. We are looking for someone who can work between 2-3 shifts a week at this point. Again, some weekend shifts are required.
If you are enthusiastic about joining a dedicated team at Sip Better and making an impact in the world of fine beverages, we would love to hear from you!
