JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Skilled Cellar Worker
Division: Naumes Crush and Fermentation
Reports to: Winemaker

POSITION OVERVIEW: Skilled Cellar Worker for a custom crush facility in Medford, Oregon. This position will work with our winemaking team in all phases of the winemaking process. Quality and safety are of utmost importance to us. A focus of this role is performance of all cellar activities including cleaning and maintenance, grape processing during harvest and post-harvest winemaking support. This position includes sanitation, barrel maintenance, receiving and sorting fruit, crushing grapes, press operations, punch downs, pump-overs, racking, filtering, additions, inoculations, operating a forklift and record-keeping along with assisting in all aspects of grape processing and cellar operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Responsible for overall cleanliness and sanitation of winery/cellar
•  Responsible for executing work orders and accurate record keeping
•  Assist in receiving and processing fruit, sorting, crushing, pressing, etc.
•  Perform various work assignments including: topping, racking, clarifying, filtering and blending of juice and wine
•  Assist Enologist and Winemaker with grape, juice, must and wine sampling
•  Make additions to juice, must, and wine
•  Assist with pump-overs and punch-downs
•  Remove pomace from tanks & presses
•  Perform barrel filling, topping, stirring and racking
•  Assist with all activities on bottling days
•  Clean and sanitize barrels, tanks, and other equipment related to the production of wine making
•  Gas empty barrels
•  Forklift operations with barrels and case goods
•  Comply with all quality standards, OSHA and company safety and emergency response programs
•  Assist with maintenance of all required inventory records and tracking of supplies
•  Actively promote a culture of excellence through teamwork, job knowledge and work ethic
•  Work with Winemaker to comply with wine quality standards and brand objectives
•  Other duties and responsibilities as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 2 years related winery and cellar experience desired but not required. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Secondary education is desired. Bilingual English and Spanish highly desired. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

•  Must be able to read, understand, and perform duties listed on work orders
•  Mathematic skills required
•  Ability to interpret, audit, correct, document, log and complete data, including time statements, standard operating procedures (SOP) and related paperwork
•  Demonstrate a working knowledge of common winery and cellar procedures
•  Demonstrate knowledge of how to operate and troubleshoot crush facility equipment
•  Computer competency with MS Word and Excel
•  Good interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with employees and vendors
•  Highly organized, energetic and self-motivated
•  Ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize workflow
•  Ability to adapt effectively to changing situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

•  Ability to work irregular shifts, long hours and weekends, when required
•  Ability to lift up to 55 lbs
•  Ability to climb and work on and around ladders, catwalks, uneven flooring, in hot, cold and wet environments; with typical winery chemical exposure and conditions traveling to all places in the winery

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

•  Valid Oregon driver’s license
•  Have or be able to obtain forklift certification

This is a full-time position based on Medford, Oregon that may expand to Cellar Lead and eventually Cellar Master position. Lots of potential with future advancement.
