Retail Account Specialist, Wines & Champagnes (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Position Summary:

  • The Retail Account Specialist (RAS) will develop and utilize selling techniques and skills to promote Pernod Ricard’s Portfolio of brands with the goal to develop and improve in-store Retail Controllables and key on-premise account relationships in conjunction with distributor sales personnel.  Retail Controllables include product distribution; consumer visibility via shelf, display and cold Box positioning; and pricing compliance in a targeted list of 70 accounts. This position will be responsible to liaise with retail and restaurant store owners/managers and distributor sales personnel.  The position’s key merchandising competencies off premise are to include; POS Placement, Shelf Set Standards, Display Building, Window Signage and Merchandising; additional to competencies in New Item Sell-in and Placement and Brand Education. The RAS is responsible for management of POS materials and warehousing to include: delivery, rotation and inventory issues. On-premise this position will be responsible for distribution goals, menu placement and printing assistance (where legal), server trainings and brand education. The RAS will recap and report performance and achievement of all activities to Market Manager on a daily/weekly basis. All activities will be consistent with the values and legal/social responsibility policies of the company. This position is based in Massachusetts.   

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Merchandising:

  • Responsible for performing store visits with the frequency outlined by manager for top accounts in marketplace. Goal is to improve portfolio position and visibility versus competitive brands through adherence to PRUSA merchandising standards. Activities will include: “negotiating” display size and key location; installing proper display, shelf and cold box POS (Cases Cards, Mass Display Pieces, Pricers, Shelf-Talkers). Hang signs; merchandize windows where applicable; restock PRUSA displays and shelf (when permitted); initiate, monitor and maintain Company standards for activities.   

Selling:

  •  Assist Distributor and PR USA sales teams in “selling-in” New Items and strategic initiatives (i.e. Brand Focus Blitz, Shelf Reset Blitz,), BTG features, displays, tastings. 

Rapport:

  • Building relationships and goodwill with the trade and distributors through tastings and education.

Planning and Reporting:

  • Develop account detailed “Call List” to include key account contact; call schedule, telephone number and customer hot buttons. Responsible for daily Pre-Plan of activities and daily recap of results and accomplishments to Market Manager.

Training and Development:

  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness on product information, merchandise promotions, advertising, and industry trends. 

Nature & Scope:

  • Position typically works with all levels of key retailers/restaurateurs and employees of Pernod Ricard USA for assigned accounts as it relates to merchandising and selling.  Incumbent plans activities for this position daily/weekly, with individual initiative in daily routine.  Overall service responsiveness to  accounts utilizing effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills, use of sound judgment, and effective analyzing of data.

Key Competencies: 

Education:  

  • BS required, preferably with a Sales/Marketing Concentration 

Experience / Background: 

  • Must be 21 with a valid and clean driver’s license.  Entry level consumer product sales position. 

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Ability to build displays and or service accounts in a highly professional manner within company standards.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office.  Ability to analyze information and make recommendations.  Ability to work independently with a high degree of energy, attention to detail and a positive attitude.  Bi-lingual preferred – Spanish highly desirable.

Travel: 

  • Estimate:  90% of time – primarily local travel within geographic area

Physical/Skilled Labor: 

  • Work is performed in a general production area and/or office environment with regular demands for moving, lifting/carrying/lowering up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, climbing, and pushing. Normal visual, hearing and language acuity required for correspondence and computer usage.
