Lead Estate Host at Boutique Premium Winery (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Dovecote Estate is a 250-acre family-owned ranch, vineyard, and winery in northern Santa Barbara County focused on handcrafting small-lot, ultra-premium wines from our two historically significant vineyard sites.

We are seeking a Lead Estate Host with hospitality and wine sales experience who is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable wearing many hats with a can-do attitude in our small family winery.

Essential Responsibilities:

Manage appointment-based tasting and sales experiences:

-           Receive inquiries and book tasting reservations.

-           Setup and breakdown hospitality areas.

-           Replenish saleable stock and update inventories.

-           Describe wines and pour samples.

-           Promote the Dovecote brand and story.

-           Sell wines and promote club memberships.

-           Manage scheduling for additional part-time hosts.

-           Train new hosts as needed.

 

Administer wine club shipments:

-           Receive and process club order requests.

-           Maintain member billing and delivery data.

-           Order and manage packing supplies.

-           Prepare wines and pack club allocations.

-           Assist in shipping drops and pickups.

 

Outside Wine Sales and Representation:

-           Attend select events to represent the winery and promote the brand

 

Manage relationships with key wholesale accounts:

-           Act as point of contact for a small group of restaurants, merchants, and distributors.

-           Assist with orders, invoicing, and delivery.

-           Host and educate account staff on Dovecote wines/brand/story.

-           Work with accounts to expand sales and ensure long-term success.

 

Essential Traits and Requirements:

-           Sincere love for people.

-           Warm, inviting, passionate personality.

-           Great conversationalist and storyteller.

-           Serious and curious about wine.

-           Experience with hospitality work.

-           Able-bodied: Can lift 50+ pounds repeatedly if needed; can work all day on your feet.

-           Comfortable outside in rural and rustic settings during a variety of weather conditions.

-           Comfortable working for a small family business wearing multiple hats as needed.

 

Schedule:

-           Approximately 25-40 hours weekly split between remote and on-site work.

-           Hours and days worked are somewhat variable depending on appointments, wine club schedules, and associate host assistance.

$17-$20 hourly plus generous guest tips (usually doubling hourly wage when hosting) as well as bonuses and commissions based on meeting business objectives. Offers will be made based on experience, management potential, and additional skills.
