Created in 2005, Stama Winery is focused or creating wines of character from Lodi AVA, and surrounding area. Our new facility construction was completed in 2015.
We are offering a full time, year around Cellar Master position with an opportunity to work with the latest equipment in all facets of high-end lots production, driven winemaking. We are a small team and wear many hats. As a member of our winemaking team you will have the opportunity to be involved in various activities while working with a highly motivated and dynamic production team; keeping learning from the winemaker all the details that make a difference in producing the best wines for the market. It is an ideal position to learn winemaker`s skills needed in our industry. During harvest, you will be a central part of our wine making team while performing various work assignments to include production of juice and fermentation for white varietals; processing red varietals:
Cellar duties:
-Act in a lead position during harvest, and otherwise provide direction/instruction/training to other cellar hands, seasonal workers, and temporary staff.
-Assist Winemaker in generating or implementing work orders for all cellar activities
- Bottling
-Monitor fermentations for brix and temperature
-Support winemaker in adjusting fermentation temperatures, mixing schedules, timing of additions
-Adhere to safety standards and protocols at all times.
-Perform all aspects of cellar work, including but not limited to fruit processing and maintenance, wine and juice movements, blending, assisting with wine additions.
-Operate and maintain a variety of pumps and other winery/cellar implements, including harvest equipment: De-stemmer, conveyers, presses, and cap management devices.
-Tank and equipment sanitation, preparation. Also, maintenance and care of hoses, racking tools, fittings, cleaning supplies/tools, etc.
-Ability to work as part of the team and independently, and be positive for yourself and those you work with.
Lab duties may include:
-Analyze vineyard, crush and fermentation samples for grape maturity and juice and wine chemistry.
-Perform daily set-up and calibration for lab instruments which may include , Autotitrator for SO2, TA and pH. Density Meter, .
-Inoculate juice and wine for primary and secondary fermentations.
-Monitor fermentations, maintain data logs report any out-of-spec values to Winemaker.
-Support grape sampling and cellar operations.
Physical requirements:
-Ability to lift 45 lbs.
-Ability to drag 100 lbs bins
-Ability to stand for long periods at a time
-Ability to pull, push, kneel, bend, reach
-Ability to work split shift as necessary; week-ends
Job offer starts in May 2020 , preparing for Harvest and will continue after harvest as a full time position if the candidate performs well enough.
Last but not least: candidates should have a passion for wine, a keen attention to detail, a sense of urgency, and a positive attitude.
Should be able to communicate effectively, show up on time consistently, and be able to complete assigned tasks. Reliable transportation is a requirement for this job.
