Position Overview

A family owned 25-acre vineyard producing approximately 2,500 to 3,500 cases annually. The Winemaker is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the wine production process including creating world class single variety wine and vintage specific blends. This includes strategic direction as well as day-to-day operations. Our winemaker works alongside the team, no job is too big or two small. As a part of the management team in a small and growing business, this is a key role in our business and expectations for professionalism and competency are a must.

Winemaking Responsibilities

Responsible for receiving and processing fruit - crushing, pressing, sorting, etc.
General sanitation of winery and equipment following company standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Transfer, rack, and filter wine from tank to tank
Fill, top, stir and maintain wine in barrels
Add additives to tanks
Manage bottling lines
Perform wine filtration using a variety of technology
Ability to spot spoiling wine and be able to identify conditions that lead to spoilage
Gather samples for analysis, including fruit, active fermentations, bulk wine in storage and packaging runs
Conduct routine lab analysis on products using various techniques and equipment
Ensure all bulk storage tanks are properly labeled and secured daily
Conduct inventory management, including physical inventory measurement when needed.
Alert management of unexpected inventory changes or other losses due to winemaking operations
Maintain a high level of quality control during every process
Aid in management of supplies inventory and other materials and equipment used in the production of wine
Maintain records as required for the purpose of meeting government and corporate requirements
Plan and create blends and products to be produced to meet the projections of the sales group
Assist with shipping and receiving raw materials and finished products
Continually look to innovate winemaking and production and adapt to changing market conditions

Requirements

At least 21 years old
Available to work up to 7 days/week and 15 hours/day as needed during harvest
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Basic math skills
Must be organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task
Able to operate a forklift with proficiency
Sound written/verbal communication and excellent interpersonal skills
Passion for wine and hospitality
Comfortable with technology including Microsoft productivity tools, email and various online tools for business and winemaking
Ability to lift 60 lbs., be on feet most of the day, bend, squat and climb stairs
Willingness to work hard, get wet and dirty, and clean meticulously
You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without an employer-sponsored petition for a visa.
