POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position forms part of a dynamic vineyard agricultural team that makes great wine. Seghesio’s Vineyard Worker 3-Tractor Driver-Irrigator, reports directly to the Vineyard Supervisor/Assistant Vineyard Manager and indirectly to the Vineyard Manager.  They will work as part of highly specialized team to support the daily operation of the cultivation of wine grapes and to ensure smooth, safe and effective vineyard operations in all areas impacting the life cycle of wine grapes.   This role is based out of Healdsburg.

At the highest level, special skills may involve: 
Primary Job as a Vineyard Worker 3 - Lead is performed as warranted generally 40%
  • Spraying, irrigation, heavy equipment operation, frost protection, and general viticulture work
  • Provides work leadership to others through assignment of work, review of progress, monitoring of results and instruction. 
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Under limited supervision performs various assigned task to includes pesticide control, fertilization, irrigation, frost protection, and bud grafter. 
  • Certain tasks may require certification to perform duties. 
  • May drive tractors or trucks to accomplish various vineyard cultural practices, such as disking, weed spraying and sulfurizing. May provide work direction to lower level Vineyard 
  • Demonstrating and achieve highest skill level in completing tedious, advanced and complicated tasks requiring considerable judgment, independent analysis and detailed knowledge of the position and procedures.  Individuals selected for these positons will have won speed pruning competitions or harvest highest grape yield. 
Secondary Job as a Tractor Driver is performed as warranted generally 30%
  • Tractor drivers perform a variety of task using a tractor such as:
  • Precision pesticide spraying, planting, cultivating, moving, dusting, disking, trellis installation, leveling and material distribution during development. 
  • Attaches implements to back end to tractor such as graders, plows and backhoes. Inspects tractor before and after trips and submits report indicating tractor condition.
  • Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed. 
  • Always operate in safe manner, following all laws and regulations. Any mechanical problems should be reported as soon as they are noticed to minimize repair bills and avoid anything that could contribute to an accident. 
  • May perform general maintenance on the tractor such as inspects tractor’s oil, hydraulic lines and other components. 
  • Assignments:  Semi-routine tasks of moderate complexity requiring some discretion and use of limited judgment and initiative.
  • Experience:  Requires1 to 3 years of directly related experience, with the typical incumbent possessing four or more years of experience.
  • Must be able to work independently with little no supervision 
  • At higher level may be responsible for correctly operating a variety of specialized Over-the-Vine equipment such as Pre-pruner, harvester, sprayers, disc. and mower attachments as required. Operates a variety of farm cultivation equipment including tractors, wheeled and track types, rippers and trenchers.  Understands safety and basic maintenance of machinery.  Demonstrates thorough knowledge of safety protocol.  Career Level
  • Skill Level:  Fully Qualified.
  • Assignments:  Advanced and complicated tasks requiring considerable judgment, independent analysis and detailed knowledge of the position and procedures.
  • Experience: Requires 4 to 6 years of directly related experience, with the typical incumbent possessing six or more years of experience.
  • Education: May require some higher education or specialized training or certification in non-technical positions.  Typically requires higher education or specialized training or certification in technical positions.
  • Supervision:  General, and may provide working leadership or guidance to lower-level employees.
Third Job Irrigator Specialist 30%
  • Train and assist field personnel with diagnosing and troubleshooting irrigation related problems. Read directions and lay pipe accordingly. May operate heavy equipment (backhoe, small and large trenchers, dump truck, front end loader, etc.) and hand tools to install/repair irrigation components. 
  • Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs many types and models of irrigation controllers, including electrical troubleshooting of all the systems components. Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots numerous sizes and types of control valves. Maintain detailed written records of maintenance activities and completed work orders. 
  • Assignments:  Advanced and complicated tasks requiring considerable judgment, independent analysis and detailed knowledge of the position and procedures.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience:  Requires 4 to 6 years of directly related experience, with the typical incumbent possessing six years or more of experience.  Recognized internally as a specialist resource or subject matter expert.
  • Skill Level:  Fully Qualified.
  • Basic knowledge of Seghesio wine and winemaking procedures.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively 
  • Comfortable using touch screen systems and computer proficient
  • Problem solving skills
  • General housekeeping
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime when required
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional work ethic
  • Timely and correct administration of paperwork and maintaining logs
  • Knowledge of line and tank equipment: lines, valves, pumps, etc.
  • Ability to train junior level seasonal help
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods. 
  • Forklift Certification a must
  • Will be required to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, bobcats, excavators, crawlers
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Required to perform advanced and complicated tasks requiring considerable judgment, independent analysis and detailed knowledge of the position and procedures.
  • May require some higher education or specialized training or certification in non-technical positions.
