Job Description:
The Retail Sales Manager represents a guest’s first impression and sets the tone for cultivating a loyal relationship through a memorable customer experience. This individual will have a deep passion for providing this unparalleled experience by confidently speaking to the wines, varietals, winemaking practices, and history of the winery. Performance Measures:
Generate and execute ideas to build tasting room traffic; track and measure success of those programs.
Develop and maintain networking programs with local establishments while supporting and growing existing business accounts.
Develop strong relationships with drivers, concierges, and other key individuals that can deliver qualified customers.
Maintain a highly productive team culture that ensures ongoing training of staff to improve quality and standards of service excellence.
Develop strategic initiatives to increase average sales per visitor, conversion to club membership, and guest engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain the highest level of hospitality for a luxury brand while supporting your sales team by working the floor, selling wine, acquiring new wine club members, and capturing data.
Mentor each member of the staff and teach them the skills needed to convert tastings to case wine sales.
Train sales staff on the benefits and features of becoming a wine club member.
Support programs in place to retain and build member loyalty.
Provide clear, ongoing communication to team through consistent and timely direction, establishing specific performance goals and delivering meaningful coaching.
Coordinate the daily visitation flow of the tasting room, ensuring all guests are greeted and made to feel expected and welcome.
Manage daily tasting room activities including opening and closing procedures, cash reconciliation, cleaning, stocking wines, and general upkeep of tasting room property and equipment.
Ensure POS system is maintained accurately by recording all sales and inventory transactions.
Reinforce policies and procedures as well as manage staff schedule to include lunch breaks in accordance with California law.
Reward employees or take disciplinary action as necessary.
Complete all administrative duties accurately on a regular and timely basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or extensive college coursework
Proven track record of generating sales and delivering results against defined targets
Strong initiative and work ethic and ability to influence subordinates in same
Ability to determine appropriate allocation of time and resources to the activities that most directly achieve desired results
Excellent communication skills, including attention to grammar and email etiquette
Improve and promote quality and demonstrate strict attention to detail and thoroughness with ability to drive results with appropriate planning and follow-up
Strong interest in wine and willing to pursue knowledge to develop expertise
Hospitable, organized, detail oriented with a strong desire to do everything well
Strong leader capable of understanding, inspiring, engaging, and empowering others
Enthusiastic, welcoming, trustworthy, self-aware, proactive, and reliable
Solid understanding of inventory
Ability to work weekends and holidays
What Will Set You Apart:
Bachelor’s degree in retail/business management or hospitality
Three years experience in a relevant managerial role
Experience working in luxury hospitality
Experience analyzing business trends
Work history with increasing levels of responsibility
Ability to think creatively and embrace change
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to work both inside and outside in varied weather conditions

This is a full-time position with competitive compensation and performance-based commission. Base salary will be determined by prior experience and abilities.
