The Meeker Vineyard is a family owned and operated winery in Healdsburg, CA. We are dedicated to making high quality, hand-crafted wines, and building a productive, efficient, learning-focused team. And since harvest is coming up, we’re seeking hard-working interns with strong attention to detail for the season. You’ll be involved in all aspects of winemaking and you’ll have opportunities to learn about all aspects of winery operations. It’s hard work but it’s the best way to get your start in winemaking. Your job duties include:
- Cleaning & sanitizing winemaking equipment and the cellar
- Weighing and sorting grapes before crush
- Assisting with crushing and pressing grapes
- Pumpovers and punchdowns during fermentation
- Fermentation management in barrel, tank, and T-bin
- Collecting samples and recording data on fermenting wines
- Moving juice and wine to and from tanks and barrels
- Maintenance and racking of wines
- Inoculating juice for fermentation
- Assisting with bottling and packaging
- Assisting with shipping
We’d love it if you have previous experience working in a winery, but it’s not required. We also want to make sure you understand this is a tough, physical job that’s tons of fun. .
If you’re the right candidate for the job, you’ll:
- Work at least 40 hours per week, early/mid August through at least the middle of October
- Work on a flexible schedule
- Lift 50+ lbs. regularly, on a daily basis
- Be comfortable on ladders
- Be able to work on your feet for the majority of the day
- Communicate well with other team members
- Contribute to a positive, team environment
Other desirable skills include: Familiarity with winery equipment, ability to drive a forklift, and understanding of winery sanitation.
Many of our Harvest Interns in the past have worked through Thanksgiving or Christmas or become full-time cellar assistants.
