Harvest Intern (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Heron Hill Winery in Hammondsport, NY is looking for paid harvest interns to join our team from September 1st until approximately November 30th. We are on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes.

There is potential for longer term and even permanent positions for the right candidates. You will work long hours, be on your feet long periods of times and likely work 6 days per week during the harvest period. Tasks will include crush pad (crushing/pressing/etc), racking, inoculations, pump-overs/punch downs, fermentation checks, limited laboratory analysis (FOSS, so super easy and fast), and most of all, Cleaning!

Our style is predominately non-intervention (whatever that means these days) but we will have some intervention if need be. We are not interested in making flawed wines if the conditions don't allow completely hands off. We want our wines to speak of a time and place, not winemaking or lack thereof. Being in the Finger Lakes we are primarily Riesling (about 50-60% of our production) but also make good amounts of Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Blaufrankisch, and Pinot Noir with smaller amounts of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gruner Veltliner, Valvin Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and potentially a small amount of hybrids (changes year to year depending on some custom crush).

We work hard, but also have a lot of fun. If you love wine, don't mind some long days (with the best view imaginable of Keuka Lake on the crush pad), sometimes some loud music and being innovative while respectful to the fruit and land, send us a note and we hope to work with you soon.
