Brewery Barrel Aging Program Manager 50k++ (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

We are seeking a lead for our barrel-aging program in our third brewery space in Gilbert, AZ, which is on a 10 BBL system. The barrel program will be the primary focus but responsibilities will include all aspects of the brewery's process from start to finish including but not limited to brewing, cellaring, packaging, and everything in between. We are looking for the type of individual that constantly thinks about processes and is always looking to improve them. This type of person is someone who can come up with creative solutions not excuses. Duties

·       Maintenance and organization of 100+ barrels in the barrel program

·       Yeast handling and management

·       Preventative maintenance on brewery equipment and barrels

·       Tracking inventory such as raw materials, barrels, and finished goods

·       Wort production

·       CIP of brewery tanks

·       Fermentation management

·       Lab testing and management

·       Maintain sanitary practices in all aspects of beer process

·       Following all safety protocol concerning chemicals and hazards

·       Flexibility in terms of hours and willingness to work nights, weekends, and maybe overtime

·       Work a variety of beer festivals and other events when needed 

·       Cellar tasks and management (taking measurements, filtering (ask us what kind), racking, dosing, kegging, etc.)

 

Required Skills

·       Fluent understanding of the barrel-aging process

·       Full understanding of cooperage handling, repairs, reuse, and overall maintenance

·       Full understanding of chemical use for cleaning and sanitizing cooperage and stainless tanks

·       Full understanding of the fermentation, maturation, and post fermentation ingredient additions (dry hopping, fruiting, etc.)

·       Experience with sensory analysis and barrel blending

·       Ability to stoop, squat, kneel, and crawl for the purposes of collecting samples, data, and cleaning.

·       Must be able to lift and transport items up to 55 lbs alone or 170 lbs as a team

·       Stand and occasionally run short distances for 8+ straight hours

·       Strong organizational habits and work ethic, self motivated, and ability to problem solve 

·       The desire to be the best and earn it with some hardware

·       Experience with QA/QC methods and techniques

·       Basic lab experience

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Ekos experience is a bonus, either way must be able to use and learn various computer programs

·       Working knowledge of chemistry and biology as it pertains to brewing science

·       Previous experience and knowledge of bottling techniques

·       Able to do a handstand while recording a video for Instagram (but seriously you need to know how to use social media, a handstand while doing so is a bonus)

·       Must be obsessed with something (TV show, video game, conspiracy theory, etc.) and be able to get into hearty debates at odd hours why your obsession is better than the other brewers' obsessions.

 

 

Education/Experience

· 2+ years in mid to large scale barrel programs (100+ barrels)

· 3+ years in production brewery or high volume brew pub

· *Bonus: Brewing certificate from an accredited school in brewing and fermentation science



This is a salaried position and negotiable based on skill set and quality of GoT theories.
