The Department of Viticulture and Enology has an opening for a tenure-track or tenured faculty 9-month (academic year) appointment with a 12-month assignment. The position emphasizes wine grape production and vineyard management. The successful candidate will teach in the areas of general viticulture, mechanized viticulture, and advanced grape and vine enterprise management. Faculty researchers are expected to seek external support through grants and contracts. The successful candidate will receive a temporary assignment as the Bronco Chair of Viticulture Research. This 12-month assignment provides up to 50% assigned time during the academic year for industry related research in mechanized or precision viticulture.

The Department currently serves approximately 150 students through its MS in Viticulture and Enology, BS in Enology, BS in Viticulture, and Certificate of Special Study in Enology. These academic programs are supported by a strong group of faculty and staff with a commitment to education, research, and industry outreach and service.

The research program is supported by the Viticulture and Enology Research Center (VERC) as part of the California Agricultural Technology Institute. Additional facilities include the Jordan College Graduate Lab, the Jordan Agricultural Research Center, the University Agricultural Laboratory (UAL), and the V.E. Petrucci Library.

Required Education:

An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Viticulture, Plant Science, Plant Physiology, Horticultural Science, Precision Agriculture, or related discipline is required for appointment to a tenure track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2018 (date of appointment).

Required Experience:

1) Commitment to and potential for teaching excellence;
2) Evidence of publications in scholarly journals;
3) Commitment to and potential for scholarly activity at the university level and successful grant writing;
4) Strong oral and written communication skills;
5) Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
