Description

 Business Unit / Department Mission: Responsible for providing high quality service and salesmanship to create the best wine shops in the country. Wine Stewards/Manager promote and sell wines through customer education, helping customers appreciate wines, and assisting in making purchasing decisions at all appropriate opportunities. Wine Managers are responsible for sales and profits, inventory management, in-stocks, displays, and the signage and presentation of the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PROCESS RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned as necessary)
- Provide high quality service and salesmanship in the Wine Department
- Share passion for wine with customers and assist customers with product related questions
- Build long term relationships with customers, maintaining knowledge of wine preferences 
- Maintains customer database for follow-ups, special product offerings, educational or information services
- Create menus and/or plans parties, events, etc
- Develops cross merchandising plans for the store that focuses on selling wine
- Coordinates the use of wine makers and chefs for in-store events, bottle signing, food and wine pairings, or meal preparation
- Creates educational programs for customers, beginner courses, advance food and wine programs
- Coordinates wine tastings at restaurants or special locations for special wines, by variety region, brand, or vintage
- Writes department schedule
- Controls and oversees the department's budget
- Coach and Mentor Wine Stewards 
- Owns personal development through pursuing sales and product knowledge training
- Conducts competitive visits regularly to identify key competitors and key models (stores from which we can learn) 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION PREFERRED
- 3 + Years Wine Sales Experience
- Great Customer Service skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- An expert knowledge of wines, their growing regions, etc
- A knowledge of local restaurant wine lists & promotions
- Organization and planning skills
- Analytical skills
- Knowledge of wines of the world including science and process of winemaking, product rating systems, growing regions, varietals, flavor profiles, food pairings, and proper storage and temperature
- Ability to lead and influence other department managers and store leaders
- Ability to work flexible schedule to include nights and weekends

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced retail environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme cold. 
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs on regular basis up to 500 feet in distance
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, squat, reach overhead and side to side throughout shift
