Quality Assurance Technician (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

About the Role:

Located at our Sonoma Bottling Center the Quality Technician will work on second shift conducting laboratory analysis and quality assurance functions to ensure the high quality of our products for our consumers.

  • Support and maintain compliance with all company HSE Policies and safe work practices
  • Support and maintain compliance with all ISO FSSC 22000, FSQM, TTB and regulatory requirements
  • Implement and maintain compliance with the food safety and quality management system by reporting food safety hazards and quality problems as they arise
  • Perform chemical analyses of wines and juices using a variety of methods (e.g., titration, distillation, enzymatic chemistry, photo spectrometry) and specialized instrumentation
  • Perform quality assurance functions:

    • Bottling line quality checks
    • Line-release validations
    • Tank inspections and analysis
    • Sanitation inspections
  • Perform micro tests (e.g., plating, evaluating results, putting inventory on hold, creating non-conformance reports)
  • Raise “Defective Goods Notices” to communicate issues to stakeholders
  • Participate in CIRs to resolve issues
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues related to packaging materials and finished goods
  • Conduct “track and trace” activities to identify packaging materials and finished goods
  • Provide guidance to all NBC team members (e.g., packaging technicians, cellar technicians, maintenance mechanics) with respect to quality standards, quality issues and corrective actions
  • Maintain good general housekeeping of the lab:

    • Clean glassware, countertops, lab equipment and instrumentation
    • Prepare chemical reagents
  • Maintain and troubleshoot complex laboratory instruments
  • Transcribe data into appropriate forms or databases accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform bench-scale trials (e.g., trial blending, stability testing, filterabilities, color evaluations, fining trials, acid or sugar series) to validate equipment
  • Calculate wine treatments (SO2) for cellar technicians
  • Participate in Critical Process Control Point Reviews (CPCPRs) of lab, cellar and operations processes
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • JDE 9.2 Blend management data entry
  • Ability to work other shifts if needed
  • Must satisfactorily pass all required technical and safety training required for this role.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in science (preferably chemistry or fermentation science)
  • Good understanding of analytical chemistry and lab instrumentation
  • Thorough comprehension of reading, writing and speaking English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Flexible with variations in line and shift assignments
  • Proficiency with basic computer operations, Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), JD Edwards
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail and time management skills
  • Physically able to repeatedly lift a 40-pound case of wine
  • Winery, packaging or related lab experience preferred
