            Job Description:
PHRS, a boutique winery known for producing small-batch, award-winning wines, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Vineyard Manager & Winery Operations Assistant-Manager. This unique role combines hands-on vineyard management with operational support for the winery.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of viticulture, vineyard operations, and wine production processes, along with strong organizational and leadership skills. With a focus on sustainability and quality, this position requires someone with an eye for detail, a proactive attitude, and excellent communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Vineyard Management:
•  Vineyard Oversight: Manage all aspects of vineyard operations, including pruning, canopy management, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting to ensure the highest quality of grapes for winemaking.
•  Soil & Plant Health: Monitor vine and soil health, conducting regular assessments and implementing organic or sustainable practices to promote long-term vineyard vitality.
•  Harvest Planning: Coordinate harvest operations, working closely with the Winemaker to determine the optimal picking time for each varietal based on ripeness, sugar levels, and other key factors.
•  Labor Management: Oversee vineyard staff and seasonal workers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to the winery’s high standards. Train and mentor, the vineyard team as needed.
•  Equipment Maintenance: Maintain vineyard machinery and tools, ensuring everything is in working order and complies with safety standards.
Winery Operations Support:
•  Production Assistance: Assist the Winemaker with various stages of wine production, including fermentation management, racking, blending, bottling, and barrel management.
•  Inventory & Record Keeping: Track vineyard and winery inventory, including grapes, wine stock, supplies, and equipment. Maintain detailed records of vineyard and winemaking operations for compliance and quality control.
•  Cellar Work: Participate in cellar operations as needed, including cleaning and sanitation, barrel preparation, and wine transfers to ensure a smooth production process.
Administrative & Strategic Duties:
•  Operational Coordination: Collaborate with the Winemaker and Owner to ensure seamless communication between the vineyard and winery operations. Help align production schedules, manage budgets, and coordinate staffing needs.
•  Sustainability Initiatives: Lead efforts in implementing sustainable vineyard practices and optimizing resource management, including water and energy usage.
•  Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to local and national regulations regarding vineyard operations, safety, and wine production. Maintain necessary licenses and certifications for vineyard and winery activities.
Client & Event Support:
•  Winery Representation: Participate in winery tours, tastings, and events, sharing insights about vineyard management and the winemaking process with guests, clients, and media.
•  Tasting Room Assistance: Support the hospitality team during peak periods by contributing to tasting room operations and representing the winery's brand and products to visitors.
Qualifications:
•  5+ years of experience in vineyard management and winery operations, preferably with small-batch or boutique wineries.
•  Strong knowledge of viticulture, vineyard equipment, and sustainable farming practices.
•  Familiarity with winemaking processes and willingness to support the production team as needed.
•  Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and train staff.
•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments and represent the winery with pride.
•  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
•  Understanding of compliance regulations related to vineyard and winery operations.
•  Degree in Viticulture, Enology, or a related field preferred, but not required if practical experience is extensive.
