The Department of Food Science and Technology (www.fst.vt.edu) invites applications for a 12-month non-tenure track position as an Enology Extension Specialist. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative, productive, and dynamic program that engages across the campus, the country and the world.
Responsibilities and Expectation: The successful candidate will support the continued success and growth of Virginia's $1 billion/year wine industry by providing educational resources and training opportunities to Virginia grape and wine producers, and communicating the practical applications of cutting edge research to producers. Primary responsibilities include design and delivery of effective applied educational programming through Virginia Cooperative Extension to the Virginia Wine Industry, and collaborative participation in applied research related to wine quality. The successful candidate will work with colleagues in Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Department of Food Science & Technology, the Virginia wine industry, and the fermented food and beverage industry to identify educational and applied research needs and develop effective, collaborative approaches by which to address these needs.
Required Qualifications: An MS or PhD in Food Science, Enology, Fermentation Science or closely related field; demonstrated, practical experience working with the wine industry, wine science, fermented food and beverage industry; effective oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team.
