Description

The Controller is responsible for the strategic financial management and for the accounting operations for the Biltmore Estate Wine Company (BEWC). The Controller is responsible for ensuring the financial statements and results are prepared accurately and timely, and will partner with all departments in BEWC to align and contribute to the strategic direction of the Wine division. Through this partnership with the Wine division, the Controller will be an integral part of driving growth in profitability and return on investment in Winery operations. This position establishes financial policies, procedures, controls, budgets, reporting systems, and analytical reports. The incumbent is also responsible for evaluating and proposing wine cost accounting techniques in accordance with U.S. GAAP and keeping the Accounting leadership team informed of potential accounting and compliance issues that could impact the Biltmore entities. The Controller provides recommendations to enhance growth and key objectives of the company while monitoring inventory, assets, cost components, supply chain, distribution channels, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  1. Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or business-related field is required. Certification (CPA/CMA/CFM) and/or advanced degree in accounting preferred.
  2. At least ten (10) years of related accounting experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will have industry-relevant experience in the cost accounting/controllership field.
  3. Flexible, strategic team player with infallible integrity and ethical standards.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to delivering world class internal/external guest service and proven leadership, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  5. Must have strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate technical information to a variety of audiences.
  7. Advanced proficiency in Excel; must be able to quickly learn Biltmore's systems.
  8. Outstanding organization/planning skills with focus on quality, detail, and accuracy.
  9. Proactive and exercises good judgment; troubleshoots and can problem solve.

Physical Requirements:

  1. This position will work primarily in an office environment, and will occasionally be working in a agricultural and/or manufacturing/production setting in the course of performing key duties. Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, pollen, and/or other particulates as well as environments with fluctuations in temperature/conditions may be possible.
  2. This position may be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  3. Some travel will be required by car and plane. Applicants must have a valid driver's license.
