Part Time Wine Sales Associate

 

Serving Fairfield County for 80 years, Harry's Wine & Liquor Market is a well-respected retail store that is known for its customer service and wine selection.  Our staff currently consists of seven full time employees and around a dozen part time employees.  Historically, many of our hourly employees who started in stock roles have moved on to management and sales roles within the store.  We are also proud of our many alumni who used the knowledge and relationships that they gained at Harry’s to move on to senior roles elsewhere in the beverage industry.

We currently have an open position for a sales associate on our wine staff.  Extensive wine knowledge is not a pre-requisite for this position.  Wine education is at the heart of Harry’s ethos so as long as you have an interest in wine, over time you will learn all that you need to know through classes, tastings and by just spending time with other members of our staff and absorbing how they talk to customers about wine.

While wine knowledge is not an important qualification for this position, there are several traits which we feel are important determinants of the successful sales associate at Harry’s:

·        Passion:  If you don’t enjoy what you do everyday then that unhappiness is going to be obvious to the customer.  We are looking for candidates who are interested in learning about wine and enjoy sharing their experiences with others.

·        Interpersonal Skills:  A large part of the sales associates’ job responsibility is interacting with customers so we are looking for individuals who can strike the right balance between presenting themselves to customers, while not being overbearing.

·        Hard Work:  Working on a retail sales floor is a physical job where you will spend most of the day on your feet.  Shelves have to be restocked and carrying cases of wine around the store will be a regular part of the job.

·        Teamwork:  Our staff members work very closely with one another and we consider them family.  It is very important that each member of the team supports the others and carries his/her own weight.

·        Self-Starter:  While we will provide a lot of the education necessary to perform the sales associate job, the candidate who is most likely to succeed is the one who takes it upon himself/herself to supplement this in store education by reading relevant periodicals as well as  attending tastings and dinners on his/her own time.

The day to day job responsibilities of a sales associate at Harry’s consist of the following:

·        Receiving vendor deliveries (i.e., checking to ensure that the delivered product match the invoice)

·        Stocking shelves, setting up and moving wine displays and generally moving wine cases throughout the store

·        Providing sales advice and support to customers

·        Typically tasting dozens of wines per week as we decide which new labels to bring into the store

·        Attending Harry’s evening wine classes from time to time

·        Learning the store POS system to check for inventory levels and products prices, input new products and assist customers

This is a part time position (4-5 days a week, approx. 25-30hrs) which can potentially turn into a full time position.  We offer a competitive hourly pay rate.
