Job Description:

Scope:

Under minimal supervision, lead the hospitality team to provide outstanding customer service and wine education at the Sonoma-Cutrer tasting room. Coordinate and host wine tastings, conduct winery and vineyard tours and educate guests about Sonoma-Cutrer wines and history. Ensure that each guest to the Tasting Room experiences the unique culture of Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards. Supervise the tasting room in the absence of the Tasting Room Supervisor.

Job Duties & Requirements:

• Promotes the sale of wine, wine club memberships and non-wine products sold in the tasting room.

• Conducts public tours of winery facilities including the vineyard.

• Leads Trade and VIP Tours and coordinates tours and tasting experiences for large groups visiting the winery

• Build brand awareness and consumer loyalty and positively reflect the brand image.

• Be an informed resource for guests regarding winemaking, vineyard techniques, winery history, availability of wines and vintages, brand awards and accolades.

• Opens the winery and secures the winery for closing

• Prepare tasting room for daily opening and closing. Responsible for clean-up of tasting room and preparation of room for wine tastings and tours. Restock shelves and maintain displays as needed.

• Responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of wine and merchandise for day to day business and special events and transferring goods in and out in a timely manner

• Handles routine purchasing transactions, which includes operating cash register and accounting of daily sales and bank deposits accurately. Process tasting room and wine shipping orders in compliance with federal and state regulations.

• Accurately process internal will calls and sample orders on behalf of the winery

• Promote responsible hospitality by checking identification as required by state regulation for serving alcohol and recognize the symptoms of intoxication.

• Provide general tourist information and, in some case, more concierge type service, calling restaurants for reservations, assisting with appointments at other wineries

• Coordinate regional outreach programs on behalf of the winery

• Represent winery at outside functions as needed.

• Coordinate and support on and off-site special events and programs as directed

• Lead the Hospitality Staff to promote the sale of wine clubs , wine and non-wine products sold in the Tasting Room while ensuring excellent customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education – High school or equivalent. Requires reading and writing in English and basic math skills required.

• Valid CA Driver’s License

• Must be at least 21 years of age to sell alcohol products.

• Able to work weekends, holidays and a flexible schedule.

• 2 years of tasting room, wine industry or hospitality experience. Or equivalent in premium retail/service industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in wine industry, general wine principals and tasting room experience desirable.

• High level of presentation skills, customer service, sales and communication.

• Supervisory Experience

• Experience giving VIP Tours and Tastings

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Required to wear all PPE as required and must follow all safety standards and procedures.

Physical Requirements - Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed to stock shelves and arrange displays and decorations, ability to work on feet for long periods of time, bending and lifting movements, manual dexterity, and ability to lift 40-70lbs.

Work Environment – Will require work in specialty retail environment, may require outdoor work during the season for various events, will require work in various settings (Retail Marketplace and Event stations and booths, working and standing on concrete floors.

Technical Skills –knowledge and understanding of food and wine, demonstrate exceptional customer service

Must be able to read and follow directions.

Computer skills – computer skills required for cash register operation and well versed in Microsoft Office Suite

Communication Skills – Must be able to communicate effectively with consumers, trade guests, employees, management, vendors and team-members. Must be able to effectively lead tastings and speak to groups of consumers, answer questions and respond in a professional manner.

Attendance/Schedule – This is a Full time position, in a 7-day per week retail environment. Will require weekend and holiday work. May require overtime on an “as-needed” basis. Base schedule will be Friday thru Tuesday.
