Vineyard Mechanic (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Under the supervision of the Vineyard Equipment Fleet Manager, the Vineyard Mechanic performs and oversees all of the various activities to repair and maintain vineyard equipment.  Assignments involve the execution of equipment maintenance for all vineyard equipment requiring broad skills and knowledge of the equipment used in the areas of pruning, irrigation management, weed control, chemical applications, pest & disease control, cultivation, canopy management, and harvest.  Must be able to diagnose, trouble-shoot and repair all equipment used within the vineyard.  Must be willing and able to drive and move equipment (California Class A license may be required) to various vineyards and equipment shops managed by The Wine Group.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 

Ø  Maintain and make repairs to insure that vineyard equipment is in good working condition

Ø  Monitor vineyard equipment condition to insure minimal downtime, optimal efficiency and effectiveness, and cost minimization

Ø  Keep timely & accurate records of maintenance/repairs

Ø  Assist Vineyard Equipment Fleet Manager to support remote TWG Equipment Shops

Ø  Assist Vineyard Equipment Fleet Manager in facilitating & monitoring equipment movements between TWG vineyard locations

Ø  Execute all vineyard equipment maintenance activities in a safe, cost-mindful, effective, and efficient manner

Ø  Maintain communications with the Vineyard Equipment Fleet Manager, Vineyard Managers & Supervisors, Vineyard Operations Administrative personnel, other equipment shop and vineyard personnel

Ø  Work with Vineyard Managers and Supervisors to support farming operations

Ø  Assist in keeping accurate and timely records of equipment maintenance

Ø  Help to maintain records of daily events involving equipment maintenance, equipment movements, and work schedules

Ø  Support (as directed) the operation and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and vehicles

Ø  Be cost-mindful of resources used for equipment maintenance to help insure that all operations are within budgetary parameters

Ø  Adhere to all safety training programs and regulations

OTHER DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Ø  Must be able to MIG, TIG and Stick weld.

Ø  Must possess a working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and controls

Ø  Must be able to work on or possess a working knowledge of the following:  

o   Diesel and gasoline engines

o   Motors, motor controls and pumps

o   Electrical

o   Welding

Ø  Must be able to work in confined areas.

Ø  Must keep required legible records.

Ø  Must have demonstrated a willingness and ability to cooperate with fellow workers, supervisors and managers.

Ø  Must be able to communicate effectively with management and co-workers.

Ø  Must be able to receive and follow oral and written instructions.

Ø  Must possess a good safety and attendance record.

Ø  Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision productively.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Ø  Position requires significant travel between equipment shops & vineyards

Ø  Ability to operate various types of vehicles and machinery to include, but not limited to, commercial trucks, tractors, sprayers, harvesters, lift trucks, dump trucks, loaders, back hoes, pallet jacks, hand trucks, maintenance shop equipment, etc. 

Ø  Must be able to frequently lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies

Ø  Primary work activities are in the environmental elements

o   Employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions

o   Exposed to inclement seasonal weather, summer heat, cold weather, rain, etc.

Ø  May be exposed to mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, farming chemicals and fertilizers, and noise levels associated with farming equipment

Ø  Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, twisting and working in very tight places in the performance of various task in the agricultural environment

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Ø  Maintenance experience in the agricultural industry is preferred

Ø  Ability to interact in a team environment
