SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Director of Brand Marketing develops and executes brand strategies and marketing plans that drive consumer pull and result in volume and profitable sales growth.  The position has a broad range of brand management responsibilities that requires proficiency in: 1) strategy development, innovation and program implementation; 2) brand and business budgeting & financial analysis; and 3) multi-functional team leadership and development. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, based in the NY office, the Director of Brand Marketing will lead brand teams in Sonoma and work closely with retail operations and winemaking  They will represent the company to all key audiences, including the Freixenet sales team, the wholesale sales organizations and consumers.   

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Business Management & Strategy Development

  • Lead the development of a robust strategy, maximizing consumer engagement and brand contribution; develop marketing programs, channel strategies and their execution.
  • Full P&L responsibility. Management of Brand spend; budget creation, and ROI. 
  • Development of marketing and business plans.
  • Provides insight to market problems and opportunities and works with management and sales team to resolve issues (i.e. pricing, distribution, supply, production, promotion).
  • Ensure clear and robust lines of communications with all internal customers.
  • Marketing Thought Leader - drive long-term thinking for portfolio or segment focusing on broad business outcomes.
  • Manages agencies as contracted providing direction with effective brand appropriate plans, robust KPIs and consistent monitoring and evaluation. Agencies may include PR, SM, creative, etc. 

Consumer Insights, Category Knowledge and Product Expertise

  • Extract insights from a wide range of data to inform business decisions and create opportunities for growth. Provide ongoing channel analysis and lead recommendations to understand and/or change brand category trends.
  • Expert understanding of category including key drivers, overall competitive framework, brand/product landscape.
  • Anticipate future trends to stay ahead of competition. 

Integrated Marketing and Innovation

  • Develop annual activation plan including platforms aligned with brand positioning, marketing mix that creates memorable and profitable wine experiences and enables activation in store.
  • Brief agencies and be accountable for creative output for all brand messaging.
  • Launch new wines, developing a strategy and rollout plan.

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor and develop the Marketing team members, providing appropriate autonomy and ownership while ensuring accountability.
  • Consensus builder: Charter and establish cross-functional teams as required to drive the business forward.
  • Mentors others on the correct analytical thought process; sought after by others as someone who can be a resource for teaching analytical skills.
  • Manage the SKU level forecast and partner with production to communicate vintage rollovers while managing and minimizing out of stock and overstock situations.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in Marketing or Business. MBA preferred.
  • A range of ten to fifteen years previous experience in brand marketing with demonstrated success across value and luxury segments. Experience in the wine industry or consumer packaged goods preferred.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, identify opportunities, and develop business plans that significantly build the business.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong creative thinker. Ability to think strategically as well as tactically.  
  • Hands-on results driven leader promoting excellence for team, individual, brand and company growth.
  • Computer proficiency with Nielsen’s/IRI or Trade Pulse.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel in a timely manner.
