Cellar Technician (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

MacRostie Winery is a producer of top quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast vineyards for almost 30years. We operate two cellar facilities, in Healdsburg, we process about 100tons of Pinot Noir and in the town of Sonoma, we process about 500tons of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 

We are looking for a team member to work under the supervision of the MacRostie Cellar Master, to learn and perform various work assignments that result in the production of high quality wines. This team member is required to perform all tasks in accordance with safety procedures, cellar procedures, and quality standards. Depending on schedule of workload, cellar operations would be at both the Healdsburg and Sonoma facility. Flexibility on location of work would be required.


Qualifications:
•  Minimum Education, High School Diploma
•  3-5yrs Cellar Experience, at least 1 year a complete season, not just harvest
•  Forklift Certification and Experience with Barrels and Case Goods
•  English and Spanish speaking and writing a plus
•  Ability to read, write and perform simple arithmetic
•  Strong work Ethic
•  Ability to work well as a team and contribute to group tasks
•  Versatility, flexibility and willingness to work in changing environment, extended shifts during bottling and harvest
•  Ability to lift 50 pounds

Desired Results:
•  Perform tasks accurately, timely and in accordance to all safety and winemaking protocol
•  Fulfill work order documentation accurately and timely
•  Effective Communication: report to supervisor effectively, communicate status and notify supervisor of any problems or potential problems 

Main Responsibilities:
•  Team member working under cellar master at small-medium sized winery to complete cellar operations
•  Follow all employee production and safety protocols and procedures 
•  Forklift operation to move barrels, case goods, fruit bins and fermentors
•  Winery cleaning operations: sanitizing tanks, line, pumps and all other cellar equipment
•  Wine movements in both tanks and barrels: transfers, racks, use of bulldog and pump
•  Operates all types of pumps including positive displacement, air, centrifugal
•  Routine barrel maintenance and prep: use of ozone, barrel washers, putting on racks, SO2 gas
•  SO2 using 6% liquid to both barrels and tanks
•  SO2, stir and topping of barrels in place on ladders and/or scissor lift
•  Other additions to tanks and barrels
•  Pulling Samples for Analysis
•  Loads and unloading of barrels
•  Harvest duties such as inoculations, rack and return, pumpovers, punchdowns, press operations and cleaning
•  Set up and sanitation of wine lines, pumps and fittings for all wine transfers
•  Bottling prep of tanks, pumps, lines, filters
•  Lifting and palletizing cases for shipment, other case goods organization and movements
