Wine Spectrum, an ultra premium, direct-to-consumer wine retailer located in Santa Rosa, CA seeks a Wine Buyer with a passion for the world’s best wines.
This position is responsible for coordinating all purchases of wine and wine-related product for an established, high-end direct marketer. Duties will include developing and managing relationships with distributors and producers, persuasively negotiating favorable allocations and pricing, and purchasing from the overseas wine markets. The Buyer will maintain our price list with a well-rounded selection of domestic and foreign current releases and offers. Job functions will include generating purchase orders in our database, coordinating delivery logistics and tracking imports.
The Buyer will arrange vendor tastings for our sales staff, research and prepare tasting and production notes - including ratings and marketing information. Additional responsibilities will include managing inventory, preparing and pricing wines for release to our sales advisors, attending trade tastings and overseeing our investment wines for appreciation purposes.
The Buyer will work closely with our sales staff, preparing wine offers to clients and sourcing individual wine requisitions.
This position will also be responsible for entertaining private cellar offers, including preparing cellar appraisals and negotiating bids.
Requirements:
• Candidates must have retail purchasing experience in the wine trade, with extensive knowledge of both domestic and foreign (old world and other) wines. Retail pricing experience with multiple skus required. Must have an experienced palate.
• Excellent writing skills and solid communication abilities required. Experience with digital media is necessary.
• Strong organizational abilities and a high level of attention to detail required. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
• Must be computer proficient, with CRM and database management experience.
• Must be a team player with ability to work closely with department managers and sales staff. Past work experience in a sales environment helpful.
