Position Summary:

Pioneers of winegrape planting in the Edna Valley, Niven Family Wine Estates is a family-owned winery located in San Luis Obispo, CA. We have created an innovative and diverse portfolio of brands over the past few decades:  Baileyana, Tangent, Trenza, Cadre and Zocker. Most of our wines are distributed throughout the country, but they are all made available in our tasting room, the century-old Independence Schoolhouse. We believe in sustainability, quality, community, tradition when warranted, and keeping consumers interested in the ever-changing world of wine.

We are seeking a self-motivated, dynamic and organized professional to lead our Tasting Room. The ideal candidate should be passionate about wine, possess highest-quality standards, along with strong customer service and sales skills.

Responsibilities include:

·         Manage tasting room staff, ensuring they are properly trained on all procedures

·         Greet and interact with guests

·         Host tours and tastings

·         Schedule staff at tasting room and special events outside of the winery

·         Take a monthly wine inventory

·         Maintain a clean and safe tasting room for guests and employees

·         Maintain movement records of wine in and out of the winery

·         Review and approve daily sales reports

·         Manage and maintain merchandise and wine inventory

·         Lead regularly scheduled staff meetings

·         Effectively educate visitors and staff about our wines and winery history

·         Meet with V.P. of Operations to discuss tasting room issues and goals on a regular basis

·         Fully support the Winery’s policies and procedures

·         Fulfill internet orders

·         Grow DTC sales in the near future

·         Attend local Vintners Association meetings, effectively communicate with neighboring wineries

·         Hire and train new staff as needed

·         Organize on- and off-site events, i.e. winemaker dinners, VIP lunches

·         Graphic design management for tasting lists, brochures, etc.

Job Requirements:

·         Must be at least 21 years of age

·         Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds on a regular basis

·         Must be proficient in Microsoft Office

·         Must have a good understanding of our POS software and its reporting capabilities

·         Must have top-notch customer service skills

·         Must be able to work weekends, holidays and occasional evenings

·         Must be able to manage and work within a budget

·         Minimum of 2 years tasting room experience with management experience preferred

·         Must have a basic understanding of human resources guidelines as they relate to employee management

·         Must have a professional appearance and demeanor
