Director of Sales and Marketing

Wine for the World is seeking a forward-thinking, talented Director of Sales and Marketing to help spearhead our company’s roll out in the US as well as pioneer our sales presence in California.

 

About Wine for the World:

Wine for the World is an innovative social enterprise (a company centered on social good) based in New York City with partners in California and around the world. We match talented, artisanal winemakers from emerging economies, who are seeking to gain access to the US market but lack the financial or marketing capacity, with acclaimed US winemakers, who provide technical assistance and marketing support. Our wines tell a unique story of collaboration, quality, and opportunity. We fill an important niche for the industry to “give back” to itself, in a meaningful way, and have attracted some top industry players to take part. Our broad aim is to provide professional and economic opportunities for our international partners and their communities, and contribute to environmentally- and socially responsible practices in emerging wine regions around the world.

Our first collaboration was between Helen Keplinger (Food and Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year, 2012) and Ntsiki Biyela (South Africa’s Woman Winemaker of the Year, 2009, and the country’s first black female winemaker in the post-apartheid era). We’re currently scaling into new regions and growing our core team.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Director of Sales and Marketing will oversee one of the most critical components of our company and as such, must be a leader, a visionary, and possess a dynamic attitude.  S/he is responsible for the oversight of all sales channels, the development and management of all California sales channels, and implementing innovative and effective marketing strategies to reach our target demographic, while upholding the integrity of our company image.  S/he will also act as our press liaison, handling all requests and actively seeking new media and strategic relationships. Specific responsibilities include:

 

Sales (50%):

·      Defining business strategy across all sales channels, and overseeing its execution nationally

·      Identifying, securing, and maintaining sales opportunities within California

·      Developing and securing strategic national and regional placements

·      Cultivating brand ambassadors

·      Establishing and exceeding quarterly sales goals

·      Maintaining accurate sales records

 

Marketing/Strategic Planning (40%):

·      Leading, managing, and executing the Wine for the World Marketing Plan

·      Building partnerships with strategic organizations, businesses and brands in luxury and social good sectors

·      Overseeing and executing digital strategy, which includes working with team on continuous refinement of our ecommerce channel and oversight of social media presence

·      Strengthening networks and outreach through promotional events (tastings and wine dinners), brand campaigns, and digital media

·      Directing all Public Relations activities, including the drafting of press releases and designing media worthy activities

·      Actively seeking, engaging and maintaining relationships with press contacts

·      Overseeing the design, production and distribution of all print and digital marketing materials

 

Supervision (10%):

·      Supervising and monitoring sales team

·      Hiring additional sales representatives, and training as required

 

Required Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s Degree in marketing/communications, or equivalent experience.

·      5-8 years demonstrated experience in sales and marketing, preferably in wine and/or luxury products, with prior management experience.

·      Ability to meet and exceed sales expectations

·      Proven track record developing or enhancing a marketing program

·      Existing relationships with press contacts

·      Vibrant, engaging, and highly-polished verbal and written communication skills essential.

·      Detail-oriented, creative, with business acumen

·      Proficiency with social media (Facebook, Twitter)

·      Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·      Ties to key sales accounts

·      Digital/graphic design and/or video production experience.

·      Command of Adobe Creative Suite

·      Previous Ecommerce experience

·      Experience using advanced social media management tools such as SEO, Google Analytics, etc

·      General wine knowledge and familiarity with wine regions of the world.
