Tasting Room Supervisor (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Job Summary

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1.  Tasting Room Operation (65%):
  • Supervise the Tasting Room staff (to include Wine Educators, Wine Barista, Non-Wine Retail Associates, and Concierge, as well as Hospitality Support staff) in order to deliver the “ultimate” guest experience for visitors through consistent, high-quality customer service.
  • Coordinate Tasting Room daily operations including:
    • Opening and closing procedures, ensuring that the Chateau is secured at closing.
  • Assigning and monitoring staff opening and closing duties, ensuring they are completed.
  • Managing staffing flow and tasks, assessing the needs of the business throughout the day.
  •  
    • Provide managerial assistance as needed, such as MOS, return requests, and cage access.
    • Ensuring all cash policies and procedures are followed and that all cash is secured at the end of business for the day
  • Attend to the guests’ needs and assist in resolving any guest inquiries, complaints, or problems, taking into consideration appropriate options.
  • Keep up-to-date with ABC  and Compliance regulations, adhering to established company policies and procedures regarding the handling and service of wine.
  • Possess a proficient knowledge of the estate wines and vineyards with a historical perspective in order to provide well rounded experience for guests.
  • Serve as a winery representative for outside promotional functions as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing expenditures and revenue of the Tasting Room which may include budget control (labor percent, COGS, inventory) as well as maximizing sales.
  • Work to drive the company focus, while managing culture, encouraging a strong work ethic, and fostering an environment of trust and respect.
  • Communicate and support company policies, standards (including Tasting Room Performance Standards) and decisions in a positive manner.
  • Facilitate VIP and Family experiences as needed.
  • Work to promote the Estate, to include the experiences, wine, and merchandise, as well as the history and the “story” of Inglenook. 
  • Assist in the management of Events as requested, and ensure they are executed to the highest level as set forth by the company. 
    • Scheduling TR staff for events as needed.

 

  1. Administrative (25%):
  • Assure that the daily schedule for the following day is posted by end of day, assigning duties and monitoring work hours and break periods of the TR staff.
    • Optimizing staffing needed to both maximize and work to the needs the business.
    • Detecting any potential scheduling issues and effectively dealing with them proactively.
  • Oversee uniform inventory.
    • Coordinating weekly dry-cleaning pick-up/deliveries, ensuring they are properly coded
    • Ensuring TR staff adhere to the prescribed Uniform Standards set forth by the Company.
  • Participate in the monthly tasting room inventory of wine and quarterly inventory of non-wine merchandise, maintaining acceptable shrinkage levels.
  • Process TR payroll, including approving timecards and managing PTO hours, while ensuring that proper protocol is maintained.
  • Assist the TR Management team in the ordering of wine, supplies, and equipment.
  • Oversee all wine shipments and compliance per reciprocal state laws, updating staff of any changes to shipping rules.

 

  1. Strategic Direction and Leadership (10%)
  • Responsible for assisting in executing the strategic direction of the Chateau, as determined by the Coppola Family and executive management.
  • Attend weekly TR Management meetings with TR Supervisor, Manager, and Director of Hospitality, in order strategize on any issues, upcoming promotions, or events.
  • Work with TR Management and Visual teams, to promote wines/products through their visual presentation.
    • Suggesting ideas for either sales promotion or brand recognition.
  • Collaborate on targeted advertising, promotional campaigns, developing/maintaining business relationships, industry outreach, while staying current on industry trends and happenings.

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: Possess a Bachelor’s or Associate degree, and three to five years of Hospitality experience presenting and selling ultra-premium wine.  Supervisorial experience preferred.
