  • Actively support the Wine & Spirits business by providing leadership, direction and communication to Stores and Merchants
  • Actively participate in system certifications and process implementations
  • Assist during annual audits by gathering required documentation and handling direct communication with the auditors
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems and implement new technology to maximize efficiency and integrity of processes and information
  • Identify opportunities and partner with Merchants, vendors, CIS and other internal business units to support Better Ways of Working Together that will effectively reduce waste and drive change through the system
  • Identify improvement areas and provide proactive recommendations to improve profitability
  • Partner with Store and Merchandising teams to identify and implement action plans and measure success; provide profitability analysis and reporting
  • Keep projects on schedule and communicate project statuses, challenges and recommend solutions to management
  • Interface with cross-departmental team members to facilitate goals
  • Advise on the activities of the Wine Accounting Specialist, ensure accuracy and integrity of work and handle any escalated issues
    • Provide weekly payroll reporting and work with vendors, Store Operations, and Human Resources on issue resolution; support payroll training
    • Prepare monthly sales tax calculations and filings, including review of purchase activity for correct sales tax
    • Perform inventory and days of supply analysis, advising stores on process improvements and during physical inventories; lead inventory training workshops
    • Compile and analyze monthly closing results (i.e. Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement)
    • Perform complex account reconciliations using technical accounting skills; understand financial statement impact and research and resolve variances with little or no guidance
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial analysis, reporting and interpretation of Wine & Spirits department results
    • Research, analyze and identify the causes of variances and recommend ways to control shrink and improve profitability
    • Prepare annual budget for accounts above and below contribution
    • Review purchases for compliance with capitalization policy, perform periodic fixed asset audits
      • Provide each employee the opportunity to be successful by ensuring necessary resources are available, performance reviews and feedback are provided in a timely manner
      • Interview, select and arrange training of new team members, and manage personnel issues
      • Lead by example and use the Who We Are philosophy to create an empowering and safe work environment, ensuring employees are complying with Wegmans policies and procedures
      • Work hands-on with employees to teach, encourage, and empower them to take on new responsibilities while utilizing training and career development planning tools to monitor progress

Qualifications 

 What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3 or more years of financial analysis experience including compilation of Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and associated notes
  • Advanced technical accounting experience with solid understanding of payroll entries and regulations, tax filings and regulations, ownership structures, prepaid expenses, accruals and owner’s equity
  • Strong understanding of physical inventory process, related accounting and metrics (days of supply, inventory turns, shrink)
  • Experience with promo dollars or rebates
  • 1 or more years’ experience leading projects teams of a cross-functional nature
  • Advanced PC skills including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Lawson, Essbase / SmartView, MORIS, WISE
  • Professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Possess strong listening skills and hear many points of view without bias, asking clarifying questions to check for understanding
  • Use available resources to pursue goals and challenges with the intent of achieving results, striving for continued excellence and taking appropriate risks (Managing the 5 Measures)
  • Effectively deal with ambiguity, handling risk and uncertainty with comfort, maintaining effectiveness in the face of change and acting on decisions without having the total picture

  • Use multiple resources to analyze data for abnormal findings, further investigating where warranted and identifying cause-effect relationships impacting the data
  • Practice process improvement, implements positive change and continuously looks for ways to improve work processes; separate and combine tasks into an effective workflow by maximizing resources and providing assistance when needed and supervise output ensuring high standards and quality are achieved
  • Advise others within the organization, as well as external business partners, using relevant knowledge and skills to ensure that sound business decisions are made
  • Use critical thinking to solve complex and difficult problems with effective solutions skillfully questioning multiple sources for answers, seeing the underlying and hidden problems and patterns beyond obvious symptoms to address root causes
  • Experience with project coordination, communicating goals and responsibilities to the team being sure to monitor performance against a project plan and effectively applying project controls. Include project stakeholders, team members, and subject matter experts in order to get things done
  • Experience with risk evaluation: proactively identifying areas of potential risk exposure, thoroughly analyzing the situation to ensure the financial investment of a solution makes sense and implementing cost-effective controls to mitigate risk

  • Master's Degree, Licensed CPA, and/or public accounting experience
  • Internal Audit experience
  • Experience with SharePoint, Access, ImageNow
  • Easily build relationships with others, gaining trust and support, finding common ground and using team-based approaches to solve problems and achieve goals
  • Ability to influence or cause change in thought or actions through verbal and written communications
  • Conduct accurate cost benefit analysis in order to invest where most the value is added

Work environment: 

  • Work involves continuous interaction with co-workers in fast-paced environment
  • Work includes sitting for prolonged periods, along with repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Work requires frequent use of the telephone and computer
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 1 – 5 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 10 pounds occasionally
