Area Sales Manager (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

SUMMARY

The Area Sales Manager is responsible for collaborating with, leading, and directing distributor management to meet/exceed the business plan and performance objectives by creating, implementing, and executing strategic sales and marketing initiatives by channel of distribution within each territory. Customers include On/Off Premise, and Independent, Regional, National and other licensed retail wine accounts. This position covers Houston, San Antonio & New Orleans area.

Responsibilities:

Distributor Management

  • Assists the Regional Manager in creating and implementing programming for the Distributors and monitors distributor progress in order to achieve set goals and develop current portfolio.
  • Actively interacts with Distributor; prepares Monthly/Quarterly distributor team meetings discussing objectives and priorities, reviewing sales & depletions and arranging for educational meetings and sales work-with. Produces post-meeting agreements and follows-through with commitments.
  • Communicates and manages the Regional marketing programs with the distributor teams to execute the local marketing plans and establish new distribution.
  • Acts as the key liaison between area-level distributor leadership and Builds distributor relationships, providing prompt response and action to distributor grievances, complaints and requests.
  • Must be able to read and interpret SAP incentive programs for the sales team management and representatives.

Key Account Management

  • Consistently calls on key accounts; identifies, grows and maintains list of target key accounts within each assigned territory, studies account profile and sales performance data to plan and conduct account calls and plans sales strategy.
  • Provides value-add training and education to staff within key accounts to support their business objectives.
  • Participates in all trade tastings, holiday shows, market events and sales meetings as directed by their supervisor.

Business Tracking

  • Maintains files with appropriate, current, and relevant historical information in an organized manner, including: account contact profiles, pricing, discounts, marketing programs (POS & incentives), depletions, accounts sold data, distributor meetings & ride-with documentation, travel & entertainment, brand information, etc.
  • Forecast future shipment and depletion trends. Provides management with market intelligence including sales trends, product development and/or competitor activity.
  • Responsible for providing timely and accurate reports as required, including: monthly planning calendar, monthly market reports, monthly goal sheets, expense reports, etc.
  • Measures progress against goals at account level and branch (plant) level.
  • Adheres to all budgets assigned, including market support and travel & entertainment.

Other Responsibilities

  • Undertakes various promotional activities, such as tasting, presentations to members of trade and consumers, and attendance at special promotions, such as wine tasting dinners, etc. – all in accordance with FX/GF company policies. Activities may be in markets outside of the primary area, as needed.
  • Effective management and use of merchandising, POS, and promotional materials and budgets.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and manage distributor inventory levels for multiple markets
  • Ensure that the FX/GF culture is consistently supported in all business and employee interactions, which includes both ethical and legal aspects, complying with federal and state laws and FX/GF company policies and procedures.
  • creates new ways to improve job performance and continually bring value to the organization.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Solid performance record of volume and profit plan achievement.
  • Proven system of identifying new business, developing forecasts, setting distributor objectives and monitoring performance
  • Bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) from four-year College or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to Five years’ experience in the wine industry, preferably experience with wine wholesaler and supplier. Previous work experience in the territory preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office is a must; TradePulse a plus.
  • Must reside in Houston.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license or be able to travel around territory in a timely manner. Flexible scheduling for evening and weekends appointments.
