Description

To assist winemakers as needed in all areas of production, optimizing quality at SMWE 14 Hands Winery in Prosser, WA. 

•Assist in wine production and monitoring of bulk wine inventory.

•Support grape crush and fermentation operations.

•Assist in the supervision of cellar personnel in absence of winemakers and cellarmaster 

•Participate in research projects, including experimental design and analysis 

•Act as liaison providing technical support to QI and Lab operations.

•Set up tastings and trials, maintaining accurate records

•Provide assistance to winetrackers and winemakers in other departments or facilities during harvest or peak seasons.

•Assist in wine evaluations.

•Become familiar with primary vineyards received at 14 Hands to facilitate interactions with growers and viticulture staff

•Represent winery at trade, technical or consumer group meetings.

•Perform other related duties as assigned

•During periods other than harvest, 40 hour week split evenly between office setting and cellar environment.

•During harvest period, 60-75 hour work week split between office setting approximately 40% and 60% cellar environment

•Ability to periodically lift up to fifty pounds

•Ability to work extended hours during peak periods

•Ability to work in cold, damp cellar environment

•Ability to climb stairs and work at heights

Requirements

•Minimum Age requirement of 21 when working within winemaking

•B.S. degree in Enology, Viticulture, Food Science or related field required. 

•Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills

•Must have the ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English

•Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

•Must possess supervisory skills.

•Must be able to travel and work in other locations as needed 

•Must be able to work extended hours and shift rotation. 

•Must possess experience with computers, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and basic database programs

•Experience with fermentation and temperature control software is helpful

•History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies
