Duties:
• To assist production of premium wines for Patz & Hall as well as sister wineries as needed
• Be familiar with all aspects of winemaking and be able to act on behalf of the winemaker.
• Monitor status of all wines in inventory at Patz & Hall and sister wineries.
• Represent the winery and winemaker at trade and consumer events.
• Organize and create work orders for all production activities, working closely with the Cellar Master to assure the correct completion of those work orders.
• Provide direction and technical assistance to the Enologist and staff.
• Purchase supplies and manage supply inventory.
• Make routine decisions, under direction of the winemaker, as to scheduling of all processing, drawing attention to possible problem areas where applicable.
• Organize and participate in tastings
• Work together with contract winemaking facilities to ensure timely and accurate completion of work orders
• Work with an international winemaking team on a collaborative basis
• Assist in the development of both capital and operating budgets for the winery
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Winemaker.
• Assist barrel/cellar employees in the performance of their duties, particularly during harvest.
• Spend time in the vineyard with the viticulturist.
• Projects can take place both indoors and outdoors where temperatures can range from cold to hot depending on the season.
• Noise level is usually moderate.
Requirements:
• Full body mobility. Ability to stand, walk, bend, sit, use tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, kneel.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly required to roll, move, and/or lift 60-gallon empty wine barrels when needed.
• Ability to work for extended periods of time at a computer.
• Minimum age requirement of 21 years old.
• A degree in a science-related field, such as Enology or Food Science, strongly preferred and a minimum of 4 years winery experience
• Demonstrated experience with all aspects of winemaking and sensory analysis
• Strong organizational and supervisory skills
• Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
• Ability to travel nationally and internationally in all forms of conveyance.
• History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
