Primary Duties:
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise seasonal staff and full time cellar crew.
- Harvest planning and execution for all winery clients. The bulk of the 2013 business will be from a single winery customer.
- Oversee the completion and execution of all customer service agreements (i.e. custom crush, bottling, barrel storage, etc.)
- Review all production compliance for the winery.
- Coordinate capital investment projects for increased tank and press capacity for 2013.
- Oversee all cellar activities including standard operating procedures and administration in accordance with QC and winery policies; ; manage and track all wine blends including blending sheets, additions, fermentation charts, spreadsheets, bottling reports, QC, etc.
- Direct and supervise cellar personnel including work orders and scheduling.
- Oversee and manage sale and purchase of bulk wines for winery and its custom crush clients including sales negotiation with bulk wine brokers and buyers; preparation of bulk wine shipments according to buyer/seller specs; and handing transportation arrangements, bills of lading and required documentation.
- Develop and oversee annual maintenance plan. Ensure cellar safety by maintaining all cellar equipment, enforcing safety policies and emergency procedures.
- Manage bottling line operation and scheduling for client wines; schedule and maintain inbound bottling supplies and monthly bottling supplies inventories.
- Maintain winemaking records and bulk wine inventories and daily wine movements for Winemakers Database.
- Liaise between vineyard manager and ownership re vineyard operations, grape sales and deliveries.
- Liaise with ownership concerning operations and operating and capital budgets.
- Develop 3 year business plan to accomplish business objectives.
- Develop marketing plan to define new customers.
- Budget for future capital expansion (e.g. tank capacity and cave storage).
- Run full sanitary assessment of facility, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and sanitation practices in cellar.
- Set up and maintain laboratory for wet chemistry analysis (pH, TA, VA, Alcohol) to industry standard.
= Outreach to local Pope and Chiles Valley growers and vintners.
Qualifications: BS in Enology, Viticulture, Fermentation Science, or related field; winemaking, lab and supervisory management experience, valid forklift certification and CA drivers license with clean driving record, proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Winemakers Database (or similar cellar software.) Must also be able to regularly lift/carry up to 50 lbs., stand, climb stairs and ladders, drive a forklift, and lift/carry/move equipment and supplies on a regular basis. Must be able to work extended hours and overtime when required to meet operational needs, particularly during Harvest. The ideal candidate shall have strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills, and be able to manage priorities and workflow with little or no supervision. Prior custom crush experience and knowledge of Spanish a plus.

Compensation: Commensurate with work experience and future growth prospects.
